His Hidden Mate

Prologue Thunder crashed over head chased by lightning that illuminated the empty clearing. Rain poured down soaking the earth and creating a slippery landscape. Suddenly a young woman with hair as black as night crashed into the clearing. In her arms she gripped a wrapped bundle close to her chest. Fear shown in her eyes as she glanced behind her. She lost her footing and fell to the ground. Water dripped off of her as she cradled her crying bundle to her chest and stared into the trees she had come from. A howl echoed through the night as a small army of wolves slowly emerged from the tree line led by a wolf as black as a starless sky. As the wolf stalked forward, the sounds of bones snapping and breaking could be heard until a tall sinister looking man stood in place of the wolf. “I told you that you couldn’t hide from me witch. Now hand over the child and I will make your death quick.” The man said as the wolves behind him pranced in anticipation. “I will never let you have my daughter you mutt! Her gifts are not yours to use for your own gain!” A dark grey wolf stepped from the pack and shifted into a tall man with white blonde hair. “Katrina please. Come back with us. We won’t hurt you. You and our pup make the pack stronger.” He pleaded with her. “Samuel, you know as well as I do he will kill be for our daughter.” “He won’t, I will protect you both my love” Just then another man stepped from behind Samuel and slit Samuel throat, cutting the flesh to the bone. His body crumpled to the ground as his blood stained the grass. “Samuel, no!” Katrina sobbed. She saw the glint in the dark mans eyes and knew what was coming next. Katrina silently sent a prayer up to the moon goddess. Selene, mother of the night, please save and protect my daughter. I know she is destined to be the Savior of us all. Please take her away. The man turned his head to his second who still had Samuels blood on his hands and said, “Take the child, kill the witch.” The murderer shifted back into his wolf and sent a deafening howl up into the night. The pack began to creep up on Katrina, teeth barred and snarling. As they got closer to the woman and her child, a blinding light illuminated the entire clearing. When the light dimmed, Katrina was kneeling in the grass with tears of relief flowing down her face, her arms empty, her daughter gone. “No! Damn it Selene! I will find her and tear her from you. Destroy the mother!” the man screamed. As the pack of wolves descended on the woman and began to tear her earthly body apart, she sent a silent thank you the the moon goddess for sparring her precious daughter from this fate.
