Chapter 6 Pipers pov It was a very quiet ride home. Her mother kept glancing at her out of the corner of her eye, but wouldn’t speak to her. What did I do? Was my behavior that terrible that mom and dad are ashamed of me? I don’t even remember what happened. I must have blacked out somehow. Piper still couldn’t believe she couldn’t remember what happened. She kept replaying everything that she could remember over and over in her mind and she couldn’t seem to pin down anything. Her mother pulled into their driveway and put the car into park. After she turned off the ignition, she turned in her seat to face Piper. A look of concern and not anger graced her mothers face. “Piper, honey, how do you feel? Do you feel okay” she asked while doing the typical mom gesture of checking Pipers forehead with her hand. “I guess I am a little tired. Maybe dad was right and I should go to my room and relax for a bit.” “Okay sweetheart. I will come get you for dinner.” Piper got out of the car and headed inside. She made a pit stop at the fridge for a can of soda, then headed upstairs to her room. After opening the can and setting it on her nightstand, she flopped down on her bed and closed her eyes. within seconds she was sound asleep. Piper opened her eyes and she looked up into a pale blue sky peaking through the canopy of branches overhead. She sat up and looked at her surroundings. She was in a small clearing in the heart of a forest. A gentle breeze teased the vibrant leaves on the branches all around her. The rays of the sun filtering through the leaves felt warm and comforting on her skin. “Wow what a beautiful place to dream about,” Piper said aloud to herself. “I am quite fond of this place myself. It is, after all, where I created my first daughter.” Piper was not expecting an answer so the melodious voice startled her. Piper whipped around to the sound of the voice and said, “Who are you? How did you get in my dream?” “My name is Selene. I am the Moon Goddess. And I am in your dream because I brought you here.” “Why would you bring me here?” “I think it is time we had a little chat and I explained a few things to you. As you know, your mother found you as a baby and gave you the best life she possibly could. But I want to talk to you about your birth parents. Well, I think it would be easier to show you.” Selene placed her hands on either side of Pipers head and closed her eyes. Pipers vision was taken over by a heartbreaking scene that took place in a meadow on a horrendously stormy night. Once the vision was finished, Piper had so many questions. “Was that me and my mother? And the man who died, was he my father? Who was that horrible man and why did he want to take me away from my mother like that? What happened to me? Is this all about what happened at Mr. Lancasters today?” Selene chuckled, and looked at Piper. “Easy my child. I will answer everything in time. First, yes that was your birth parents, and yes they were killed when you were an infant. Usually, gods are not allowed to meddle in human affairs and affect how lives play our, but, your mothers dying thought was a prayer to me to save you from the same fate as her. She did not want you to live a life of torture and pain at the hands of a truely evil man. His name is Gladious. He is an alpha who has read of a legend of a baby girl being born who will either save us all or destroy the world. That baby girl is you. You are a descendant of the gods of old and you have inherited many gifts from them. One of your godly grandparents will be visiting you shortly.” Piper opened her mouth to ask a million more questions but Selene held up her hand. “I don’t have much time to explain things to you for your mother will be waking you shortly. I want to explain my gift to you. Lifetimes ago I created a race of children in the moonlight. I had already created werewolves. My next children were called the Lycans. Part wolf part man. They could shift in two forms. A full wolf shift, even though their wolves were twice the size of their older siblings, and a Lycan shift, which was half man half wolf and stood over seven feet tall. Now the one thing I did not anticipate with the Lycans was their bloodlust. After a while they became feral and wild, killing and destroying everything in their path. I had to lock my children away until one of my children came along who could control her inner Lycan and bring about the return of her race. I have granted you the first Lycan, Piper. Her name is Diana. She is smart and she will teach you well. I hope you can bring about the return of an entire race. Meeting your mate finally unlocked Diana and now she can communicate with you.” “My mate?” Piper asked. “Yes, my child. That amazing scent that you smelled, that is the scent of your mate. Find him. He will help you and guide you. All my children are one half of a whole. The search for the other half to make a complete soul, and yours has unlocked your future. We will speak again soon, my child.” And with those parting words, the forest and clearing faded away to darkness and Piper began to hear her mother speaking her name.
