As Marissa entered Carl’s office, he was still inundated with thoughts of his ex-wife spending time at his home while their daughter, Senovia, played or worked on arts and crafts with other neighborhood kids. Surprisingly, it was a welcomed thought but scary, nevertheless. Becoming emotionally entwined with Samantha again left Carl vulnerable to Samantha leaving him a second time for another man. He rationalized working out their fragile relationship because, after all, Senovia needed a family. Carl refused to admit he still loved her despite the betrayal. Perhaps, because he was ashamed or thought himself a fool.
