Beneath the Moon Light
The moon was big and round. It was shining high in the sky like a big light bulb. Everyone in the Black Moon Pack was happy. They were dancing and singing. It was the day of the Moon Festival. But one girl was not dancing. She stood behind a big tree. Her name was Lona. She had long brown hair and big sad eyes. Lona was 18 years old. She was small, but strong. Her clothes were old and dirty. Nobody wanted to play with her. Nobody gave her food. Lona was an omega. That means she was the lowest in the pack. People kicked her. People called her bad names. They said she was a curse. But Lona was quiet. She never shouted. She just picked up their trash, cleaned their rooms, and cried at night. Today was worse than other days. “Go hide, Lona!” shouted Bella, the Alpha’s daughter. “You are too ugly for the Moon Festival!” Lona looked down and ran away. She hid behind the big tree again. She wished she had a mother. She wished she had a friend. But Lona had a secret. A big one. She could hear voices in her head. Not her own voice. A strong voice. A wolf voice. “You are not weak,” the voice said. “You are special.” But Lona was scared. She didn’t know what the voice meant. Back at the party, the drums were loud. Everyone was waiting for Alpha’s son to appear. His name was Jayden. He was tall and handsome. His wolf was strong. All the girls wanted to be his mate. Suddenly, the crowd became quiet. Jayden walked to the front. His shirt was off, and his eyes were golden. He raised his hand. “I will find my mate tonight,” he said. “The Moon Goddess will show me.” Lona’s heart started to beat fast. She didn’t know why. Her hands were shaking. Then, Jayden looked straight at her tree. “Who is there?” he shouted. Everyone turned to look. Bella laughed. “Oh no, it’s the rat again!” Jayden walked slowly to the tree. His nose twitched. His eyes widened. “No…” he whispered. “It can’t be.” He looked at Lona. Right into her eyes. “MATE,” his wolf growled loudly in his head. Lona felt dizzy. Her knees were weak. But before she could speak, Jayden’s face changed. His eyes turned cold. He stood tall, pointed at her, and said with a hard voice: “I, Jayden of Black Moon Pack, reject you as my mate!” Everyone gasped. Lona’s mouth opened, but no words came out. Her heart broke. She fell to the ground. Lona lay on the ground. Her chest was hurting. It felt like someone had stepped on her heart. Tears ran down her face, but she did not make a sound. She looked up. Everyone was laughing. Even the elders did not stop them. Jayden turned his back. He walked away like she was nothing. Like she was dirt. Lona wanted to run. But her legs would not move. Her wolf was quiet. The strong voice was gone. “Get up, trash,” Bella said, kicking her side. “You are not even good enough to be rejected." You’re lucky he spoke to you at all.” Lona stood slowly. Her arms were shaking. She did not fight back. She never did. She walked back to her small room behind the kitchen. It was not even a real room. Just four wooden walls and a broken bed. She sat down and held her knees close to her chest. “Why did the Moon Goddess choose me?” she whispered. “Why would she let this happen?” There was no answer. Just silence. But late in the night, when the moon was high again, her wolf came back. “You are strong,” the voice said gently. “He rejected you, but you will rise.” Lona wiped her tears. “How can I rise? I am nothing.” “You are not, nothing,” the voice replied. You are not just an omega. You are chosen.” Lona didn’t believe it. But her wolf sounded sure. Like she knew something Lona didn’t. That night, Lona had a dream. She saw a big white wolf standing on top of a mountain. The wolf had golden eyes. It was surrounded by fire, but the fire didn’t burn it. Behind the wolf was a pack of other wolves. They bowed to it. Then the white wolf turned to Lona. “Find the silver lake,” it said. “Your true journey begins there.” Lona woke up with a start. Her heart was beating fast. She looked outside. The stars were bright. “Silver lake?” she whispered. “Where is that?” She didn’t know. But deep in her chest, something had changed. Something had started to grow. A small light. A little hope. She knew she could not stay in the pack. Not after what happened. She had to leave. She had to find the silver lake. But how could she leave? She had no money. No map. No help. And worst of all, wolves were not allowed to leave the pack without permission. If the Alpha found out, he would punish her. Maybe even kill her. Lona stood up. She looked at the moon. “I will go,” she said. “Even if it kills me.” She began to pack her few things: a torn blanket, a bottle of water, and a small picture of her mother. Then she opened the back door. She stepped into the cold night. She didn’t know where the silver lake was. But she knew she had to find it. Even if it meant running into danger. She walked quickly, staying in the shadows. Past the kitchen. Past the training field. Past the border trees. But just as she reached the edge of the forest, she heard a sound. A growl. She turned. Bright eyes were watching her. She wasn’t alone. Lona froze. The eyes in the dark did not blink. They were glowing yellow, just like a wolf. But this wolf was bigger than normal. Much bigger. It stepped out from the trees. Its fur was black as night. Its claws dug into the ground. Its teeth shone in the moonlight. Lona’s heart raced. She wanted to scream, but no sound came out. The wolf growled again, low and angry. Then it sniffed the air. Lona took a step back. Her foot snapped a twig. The wolf raised its head and looked straight at her. Then something strange happened. The big black wolf… bowed. It bent its head down like it was greeting her. Lona blinked. What was happening? She had never seen this wolf before. It didn’t belong to her pack. It wasn’t a rogue either, it was too strong, too sure. The wolf stood up and turned around. She walked a few steps into the forest, then stopped and looked back at her. It was waiting. “Do you want me to follow you?” Lona whispered. The wolf didn’t answer, but it didn’t leave either. Lona took a deep breath. Her wolf stirred inside her. “Go,” it said. “Trust the path.” So Lona walked forward. Slowly. Carefully. The big wolf led the way through the forest. They walked for hours. The trees got thicker. The air grew colder. Lona didn’t know where she was going, but she felt… calm. Safe. At last, they reached a small river. The water was clear and shiny. The wolf stopped. It looked up at the moon, then back at her. Then, in front of Lona’s eyes, the black wolf began to shift. Its bones cracked. Its shape changed. Lona stepped back in shock. When the change was over, a man stood there. He was tall and strong. He had black hair and a scar on his cheek. His eyes were the same, glowing yellow. He didn’t speak at first. Then he said in a deep, serious voice: “You don’t know me, but I know you.” Lona stared at him. “Who are you?” she asked. “My name is Kairo,” he said. And you, Lona, are not just an omega. You are the last blood of the Moon Queen. Lona’s mouth fell open. “What?” Kairo nodded. “There’s a war coming." And you are the key.” Lona shook her head. “No… no, I’m just a servant. I’m nothing.” Kairo looked at her with sad eyes. “They lied to you, Lona. Your mother was not a cook. She was the daughter of the Moon Queen herself. They hid you to keep you safe. But now, your time has come.” Lona stepped back. Her head was spinning. None of it made sense. But then Kairo’s eyes turned sharp. He grabbed her arm and pulled her down. A loud howl echoed in the forest. More werewolves were coming. A lot of them. Kairo stood up fast. “They found us. Run, Lona! RUN!” Lona turned and ran into the forest, her heart beating like a drum. Behind her, the sound of paws, growls, and war cries filled the night. The hunt had begun.
