CHAPTER 08

1163 Words
“Can we talk?” I tell the Alpha, swallowing the shame that seems to want to swallow me whole. He raises a brow at me before he nods and starts to lead me away. He didn’t take me to his office like I expected, instead he takes me to the roof of the building, several floors up. But the view from here, It is simply magnificent. I can see almost everything. There are a group of men training on one side, all naked bodies and sweat, and there are women on the other side, drooling from the sight. And then there are children in another part of the vast space, playing soccer. And outside the building, is a vast field of trees and flower. Colorful. Lively. It is simply beautiful. I no longer feel that heaviness in my chest. I already almost forgot what Ryan just did. I can’t stop the smile that slips into my face. “You like watching nature, don’t you?” “Are those butterflies?” My wolf’s vision helped me see that far but they also look so colorful that it feels unreal. “Yes, Leila. Those are butterflies. It’s Nina’s collection. The garden belongs to her.” I turn to him instantly, forgetting what I’d been here for. “She won’t let me go near it, will she?” anyone will feel protective of a place they’ve bred like this. “Nina won’t mind. And I think you’ll have plenty of time to see the garden, considering you’ll be moving here soon.” The smile instantly leaves my face. I suddenly remember I am not here for fun. “Alpha, actually today I came here to—“ “You saw what just happened between those two. Your husband pushed you away for another. Are you sure you still want to reject me?” I pause for a moment, just staring at the Alpha. His eyes are cunning, his lips raised to form a playful smirk and this aura he carries, it is different. It is dangerous. Ryan says I cannot afford to mess with him. But when have I ever been afraid of saying whatever I wanted? “Whatever problems we have, it is between me and Ryan.” “I’m sure it is.” His eye searches mine. “But don’t you ever wonder what Ryan does when he leaves you at home and come here for work? Don’t you want to be closer to him? Here, where he spends most of his time.” “Stop trying to instigate me.” “Then stop trying to fight this.” He says, softly, closing the space between us. “This thing that we have between us, this bond, this attraction, you think it will just go away?” He is close, so close I can feel every breath of his licking my face like flames. Hot, scalding, flames. I swallow hard, clenching my thighs, chanting control in my head, considering I suddenly want to tell him to take me to bed. My stupid core is clenching so hard it is almost unbearable. “You think your husband won’t betray you?” he continues, as if he doesn’t know what this closeness is doing to me or how I am struggling to keep it together. I lift my eyes to meet his, “Ryan will never.” “You think so.” “I know so. He knows better than to do that to me.” “All the more reason why you should stay.” He tells me, holding my waist gently. “Stay and find out more about him. You can only do that here. And besides,” he suddenly steps away, his body heat leaving me wanting to close that distance again. I know he is messing me with me when I see that oblivious look on his face. He looks almost innocent, and I wonder if he enjoys teasing me like this. The good thing is, I’m not longer holding my breath, or clenching my thighs. But a part of me wished he’d just slam me into the wall and take me right here. My body really does betray me in ways I do not expect. “I really do need your help with the skyglade’s pack. Your quick insight and perception will help this pack to avoid disaster.” From his tone, I can tell whatever this skyglade’s business is, it is definitely more dangerous than he is making it sound. And besides, I no longer feel certain about Ryan after what just happened with Gina. I need to keep an eye on those two, so I quickly make a decision. “Fine.” I say and quickly look away before the Alpha’s gaze meets mine. “I’ll move in tomorrow. Me and Ryan.” I see the way his lips stretches into a smile. “I’ll prepare the best apartment we have.” He says, “And a welcome party, for the both of you.” I’m not sure there is a need for that, but I force a smile and just as I look out again, wanting to see Nina’s beautiful garden, I end up seeing Ryan, and Gina, walking out of a building I think happens to be the pack’s clinic. She has a bandage on one side of her head as if it hasn’t already healed. What show is she trying to put on now? I groan internally, knowing I’d have to get even with her. No one schemes against me and get away with it like that. “The party you’re going to throw for us, is she going to be invited?” I point towards where they are standing and the Alpha looks. I see how his lips curls and then he says, “If you want me to invite her, just say the word, Princess.” “P--princess?” I stutter, taking aback. “You’re going to be my princess.” Something shifts in my heart. Only mom used to call me that. No one else ever has. Not even Ryan. But then— “I’m a married woman, Alpha. You’ll have to be careful with how you address me.” “You don’t seem to hate it.” He smirks, as if he’d seen through me. I swallow hard, suddenly not knowing where to put my face. He definitely knows how to make me feel uncomfortable. My eye catches the two again. This time, Gina is leaning on Ryan’s arm, acting weak while Ryan supported her, treating her like a fragile little thing. If I feel doubtful before then now I am certain. This childhood friend of mine is definitely coveting my husband. And I’m not surprised because she tried her best to date him in the past. I begin to plan my little revenge in my head. The welcome party will definitely be adventurous for me. I can finally have fun.
