CHAPTER 007

“What is this?” Ryan looks confused as he opens and read the content. “An appointment letter, Ryan. Not for you of course.” Torren says. “The Alpha values talent and your wife happen to have one he is in need of. This is an official appointment for Mrs. Leila to become the Alpha’s special advisor. It cannot be rejected and he expects you two to move into the pack house as soon as possible.” I freeze, eyes moving from Torren’s face to the letter. “I… I am to be the Alpha’s advisor?” He nods again and I curse internally. That Alpha is doing this on purpose. I definitely made it clear I wanted nothing to do with him. He seems to not want to hear it. Ryan is saying nothing, but I can see how his hands are clenched tight. “I understand.” I step forward “Tell the Alpha I will see him today if he will make time for me.” Torren nods and left. I go inside and hear how the door slams close behind me. Ryan is not just mad, he is boiling with rage. Perhaps he can already sense what is going on. “You’re not going to the pack house.” He yells. “You’re not going to work for the Alpha.” “Why not?” I don’t even look at him. I go back into the kitchen to finish preparing my meal. Ryan comes behind me before I can even feel him. “I’ve told you. That man wants something else. If anything, you should afraid.” “Afraid?” I act clueless. “When I met him yesterday, he looked so nice and acted very gentle with me.” “That’s because he is trying to win you over.” “Ryan, why are you so against me going to the pack house? Is there something you’re hiding from me?” I see him freeze and my eyes narrows. From the way he is reacting, he might really be hiding something. Which makes me want to go all the more. “We have to go!” Dina said, clearly happy about the turn of event. “I’m not hiding anything.” Ryan finally speaks. “I’m just trying to protect you.” “From what?” I ask, “The Alpha clearly needs my help with the sky glade’s pack and I’m happy to provide it. You’ll also be at the pack house, wouldn’t you? What are you so afraid of?” “You’re doing this because you’re still mad at me.” He says softly. “And so?” I try to keep any emotion out of my face. Last night, Ryan really felt like stranger to me. I’ve never seen that side of him and not only am I afraid, but I am also mad. I refused to leave the house in the same car with Ryan. I head to the pack house by myself after Ryan has left. I need to see the Alpha and ask him what exactly he is thinking. If I need to reject him right now, then… “You might not need to reject him. You’ve seen how Ryan treated you last night. It’s a reason to divorce him.” My wolf quickly says and I roll my eyes, locking the car as I head towards the gate of the pack house. Surprisingly, I see someone I know. It’s Gina, a childhood friend of mine who I lost touch with after I married Ryan. I quickly call out her name with a smile, hurrying towards her. “Leila?” she looks equally surprised and maybe not as happy as I am to see her. “It’s me, Gina.” I say, holding her hand. “How have you been?” “What are you doing here?” “Uhmm… why can’t I be here?” the smile disappears from my face when I see her frown. She clearly is not happy to see me. “Does Ryan know you’re here?” “Actually, I’m here to see the Alpha.” “The Alpha?” she chuckles mockingly, “What business could someone like you have with the Alpha? He is not within your reach, Leila. Go home and continue being the little obedient house wife you have been.” A house wife? I’m not sure why that sounds very offensive but then, she is not lying. I have been a housewife for the past one year. Ryan won’t let me do anything even if I wanted. “Gina, you don’t have to be so rude.” “Of course I can. I am the pack’s head doctor. A position you can never dream of. So of course I can afford to be rude to you.” “I am the beta’s wife, so no, you cannot afford to be rude to me. I should have more authority here over you.” “Authority? For someone who has never been in the pack? Who will even recognize you if you say you’re the beta’s wife? You’re nothing, and I don’t think you deserve to be here.” She says, and calls for the guards who quickly came rushing. A few people passing by also stopped to see the commotion. “I think this woman has lost her way, escort her out.” “Right away, miss Gina.” The guard didn’t ask any question, just a nod to Gina before he begins to drag me away and I hurried to say. “I didn’t lose my way. I’m here to see the Alpha.” But no one listened. No one believed me. “You’re making a great mistake. I am the Beta’s wife. You think he will let this go if you treat me like this?” “Stop lying, woman. The beta’s wife will never show up here.” A frown crosses my face. I don’t know what to do but I know I can’t let them send me away like that. I bite the guard’s hand and he finally releases me while I rush to grab Gina. “What are you trying to do, Gina? You know very well that Ryan is my husband. You have no right to send me out like this!” I am only grabbing her collared shirt. In fact, I am not even grabbing it that hard, but Gina’s eyes suddenly rolls back and she jerks away from me. Her back slams into the wall and I think she hit her head, blood starts to flow from the side of her head. I stand there, filled with shock, wondering what just happened when one figure ran towards me. It was Ryan. He pushes me away and runs to Gina, holding her, and sees red when he sees her bleeding head. He looks at me with hatred, I’ve never seen him like that, never seen him with that kind of look. “What did you do to her, Leila?” he growled, his wolf coming to the surface for a brief moment. “I… I didn’t do anything. S-she threw herself into the wall. I didn’t push her.” As I say this, I find that my words sounds ridiculous. The people at the side are already sneering at me and calling me names. They believe I pushed Gina when I didn’t at all. She clearly threw herself into the wall. How could anyone not have seen that? “Call a doctor, she is bleeding!” Ryan barks out, and everyone rushes to find a doctor. Gina’s eyes opened just then, and I angrily walk towards them. I grab her before I even know it. “Tell them, Gina, I didn’t push you, you were trying to throw me out and I only grabbed you—“ Ryan grabs my hand violently and shoves me away before I can continue. “Leila,” she suddenly looks scared, all the arrogance she’d possessed earlier was gone in an instant and she looks terrified of me. “I know you’ve always hated me since we were kids. But I’m sorry, I didn’t think you’d still hate me. I only wanted to help you see the Alpha and you acted so aggressive towards me. The guards came and tried to send you away, but you lost it and attacked me again.” Ryan looks at me and I quickly begin to shake my head. “That’s not true. She was trying to kick me out.” “Get out of here, Leila. I didn’t think you’d be so wicked.” I stand there, clearly hurt. “You believe her over me? I said I didn’t hurt her.” “I clearly saw you push her, Leila. Why are you lying to my face?” Ryan growls, clearly about to lose it. For another woman… for another woman, even his wolf is ready to attack me. I watch as Ryan gathers Gina in his arms and carried her to the pack’s clinic to get treated. I can’t help seeing her smug face as she leaves with Ryan. I suddenly understand what this is. “Is this the husband you are willing to reject your fated mate for?” Someone calls from behind me, and I turn to see the Alpha. I’m not sure how long he has been there but I can tell he witnessed everything. I suddenly feel embarrassment and go mute as I feel him come closer to me. Even my wolf seems to feel shame for me. Shame that the husband I was willing to do anything for, took another woman’s side over mine.
