ALPHA KAEL.
My mate was right there in front of me. My own. My fated. Mine.
But I could not claim her. She belongs to another. She belongs to my Beta. The thought of it is driving me mad. I want to punch something. Anything. My wolf, Max, is pushing me to do something. He wants to be around her again. And that is when I make up my mind. It doesn’t matter if she is married to my Beta. Ryan doesn’t deserve her.
I’ll claim her. I’ll own her. I’ll make her mine.
When have I ever wanted something and not get it?
So I send the invitation. It’s the first step to getting to know her. I check my wristwatch and see it’s almost time and I’m about to go out when my door opens and my sister walks in.
“What is this goddamn burning smell, Kael?” she walks in like she owns the place as usual.
“I’m busy, Nina. Say whatever you have to say after tonight.”
“Tonight?” she c***s a brow. “Is there something special happening tonight?”
I ignore her, throwing my clothes on as I begin to head out but she is following me around like a stubborn fly.
“You know, Torren told me something today. He says you found your mate. Our Luna. Who is she? Is she from this pack? Where did you meet her? When will you bring her to us? Is she pretty? Are you--”
“Stars above!” I snap. “I should punish Torren for revealing my business to you.”
“You can punish him all you want. I’ll just find someone else to latch on to who will tell me every business of yours. You know they’d never be able to resist me.”
The thing is Nina is not joking. And if I don’t tell her anything, she will keep pestering me. She could be a terrifying nuisance sometimes so I quickly tell her.
“She is married.”
She freezes in her step. I didn’t wait or look to see her mouth curving into an O’ shape. “Sh-she is what?”
“Married, Nina. So let me be.”
“No wonder the room stank so badly when I entered. You must be angry.”
Anger is not what I feel right now. I was losing my mind.
“Who is she married to? Do you know him?”
“We all do.” I look at her and shake my head as I enter the room I am supposed to have dinner with my mate. “She is Ryan’s wife.”
“Holy f*****g goddess!” she puts one hand on her chest dramatically. “This is crazy. Ryan’s wife is your mate? How? What is the moon goddess thinking? What are you going to do?” her eyes look sympathetic. Any other person might fall for it but not me. I can see past her fake emotion. She is excited.
“What do you think I’ll do?”
“Steal her?” she asks, and I shake my head.
“She already belongs to me. There’s no need to steal her.” As I say this, an idea lights up my mind and my lips curved wickedly. “I need your help.”
Nina could barely hide her excitement as she settles closer to me. “Anything for you, brother.”
I whisper it in her ears and she covers her mouth in shock as she pulls away.
“You are such a wicked thing.” She tells me. “I know I am going to find something.” She clasps her hands together. “And I can’t wait to meet my sister in-law. And our new Luna. It’s time we finally have one.”
I can’t agree more with her on that.
A knock on the door makes me pause and we both look in the direction as it opens and Torren steps in. Behind him though, is my beautiful mate.
She looks around awkwardly, biting her lips before she steps in, clearly on her guard. Nina is standing before I can, and rushing up to her.
“Oh my goddess, you must be Leila.” She grabs her hand quickly. ”My brother was just telling me about you. You’re so pretty. How have I never seen you around?”
“Nina.” I call with a small growl to warn her. My mate is obviously uncomfortable. And she is already bombarding her with so many questions.
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. I’m just too excited you see. We’ll finally have a Luna around.” Nina says and I watch as my mate’s expression freezes. She says nothing though apart from quietly pulling her hand from Nina’s grip.
Serves her right. My stubborn sister never knows how to read the room.
‘Take her away, Torren.’ I send a mind link to my Gamma. And in no time, he is dragging Nina with him, out of the room.
It is quiet again. But I almost wished it isn’t. My mate is awkwardly standing there, playing with her fingers, clearly uncomfortable.
“Have a seat, Leila.” I break the silence, pointing to the seat opposite of mine. She gingerly walks forward and sit. I can’t help but notice how nervous she looks.
“I… I want to apologize for yesterday. I did not mean to possess such sensitive information. It was an honest mistake from my side.”
“I know.” I tell her gently, “Besides, you redeemed yourself by providing us with such accurate assessment of our situation. I’m curious. How did you manage to see through the Skyglade’s plan?”
“It seemed pretty obvious.” She shrugs her shoulders again as if it was nothing, but it wasn’t. Not to me at least. None of my officials were able to see what she saw. They all were egging me on to attack the Skyglade pack because they attacked us first. They failed to realize that we are the only ones who know that. There’s no evidence against the Skyglade pack. They made sure to leave none in their sneaky attacks but this woman managed to see through it in just one glance.
“Let’s eat.” I tell her and just then the door opens with some Omega maids holding food trays. Several dishes occupied the table and I begin to fill up her plate.
“Does Ryan know that you’re here?” I throw in the question casually but she chokes on the water she’d been gulping. “Sorry.” I say when she finally calms down.
“Ryan doesn’t know. He left home before your man arrived.”
“He left home?” I c**k a brow. “To where?”
She frowns and finally catches my gaze, but she drops them almost immediately as if she is afraid to look at me. “I hear the pack is under threat so Ryan leaves home early here to coordinate with others. He has been working late too. I’m sure you know that better than I do.”
Working late? I frown, but say nothing. Ryan rarely shows up here but he tells his wife he works late? He hasn’t even showed up today.
