Run, Maeve!
[Maeve]
“Run, Maeve!”
Tears trickled down my eyes and I did not hesitate to let it out. I was in so much pain as I stared at my mother, clenching her stomach tightly.
My eyes travelled down to her stomach and with each second that passed, the stains of her blood on the floor increased.
Pain and sadness was evident in her eyes but it was immediately masked with resilience and determination. Determination to make me leave.
“No, mother! You are bleeding! I cannot let you go!” My fourteen year old self cried as I resisted her push.
Mother had tried to push me out of the hidden passage that was in my room.
The secret passage seemed to come into use today as she had told me it was built for us to escape whenever there was trouble.
Despite being injured, mother was way too strong for me to combat but my determination to make us survive at all cost was enough to keep me going.
“I am not going anywhere without you, mother!” I cried.
“You have to leave right now.” She managed to say as she held on to her stomach tightly.
Watching my mother in pain made my heart shatter into a gazillion pieces and I wished I could do something to help but there was nothing.
“No, mother! I am going nowhere without you” I insisted.
The pain in her eyes immediately transformed into that of fury and anger.
“I command you, Maeve. As your mother and as the Luna of Moon Pack, I command you to leave! Run away!” She yelled at the top of her voice and it only made her feel even more weak.
I was hurt that my mother had to be in so much pain because of me but I could not watch her.
Just then, the door flung open. My eyes widened almost immediately but relief washed through me when I realized who it was.
“My Luna!” Father’s Beta, Beta Quinn walked in, fear etched to his face. Although he was bleeding as well, he was still quite strong and tried to save mother.
“Please, save my mother. Do not let her die!” I cried to him and he gave me an assuring look.
“No. “ Mother stopped him almost immediately. “Save Maeve. She is all that I have. Get her away from here. This pack is cursed. ” Mother managed to say and suddenly began to gasp.
“Wh…what are you doing? Do not come near me! Save mother instead!” I yelled at Quinn, my tear filled eyes, getting blurry. Quinn approached me and although I tried to run to mother, he scooped me in his arms again and ran out of the room.
“No!” I yelled as I saw a figure walk into my room with a sword in his hands. He was definitely one of the soldiers who had come to attack us and… that was the last thing I saw.

The droplets of the water on my eyelids suddenly caused my eyes to open immediately as I laid helplessly on the floor.
I was immediately forced to shut it again as the droplet fell right into my eyes.
What was I doing there? Although it had disturbed me, I was immediately relieved that it had helped me get out of that worrisome dream or perhaps, memory?
My mind wandered far…. Far to the last memory of what I remembered and how I had gotten there. I had been running.
Running from the animal in human skin; Justin, Alpha Julian’s son in whose pack I had taken refuge in for six years until two nights ago when he tried to take advantage of me, causing me to break his most precious flower vase on his head and kick him in his groin before I fled.
Although still weak, I managed to pull myself over. I was hungry, thirsty and exhausted. I guess I had passed out while running.
Everywhere was so cold and that explained the reason for the water droplets of the leaves even at that time of the night.
Determined to stay alive, I stood up and trudged further, my legs forcefully obeying my command as it felt so heavy to move.
I was already a mess in my tattered dress and my tangled hair which was no different from a bird's nest.
“Send me help” I managed to say, to no one in particular as I was really hungry. I wondered if I could survive the night but I managed to try. It was better to die while trying than to die just like that.
Pushing myself further and ignoring my soul's plea to give up, my whole body ached even more.
“You are strong, you are a courageous woman. You cannot give up” I encouraged myself. “You are….”
I was suddenly cut short as I suddenly saw a ray of light from a distance. My heart leapt for joy as help had finally come.
Struggling so hard, I pushed myself further and finally got nearer. It was a pack. Perhaps, the infamous Moon Stone pack?
A sigh escaped my lips as I realized help had finally come.
“Hey! What are you doing here? Who are you?” Two guards suddenly yelled as soon as I got to the gates of the pack.
“I…. I need some food and.. and.. and water and shelter” I managed to say to them, my voice shivering as I searched for mercy and pity in their eyes but instead, it was filled with anger and hatred and they had frowns etched to their faces as they scanned me from head to toe.
“Do not listen to her!” One of the guards suddenly yelled to the other. “She is a spy!”
A spy? My eyes widened almost immediately. What exactly was he saying?
“A spy? Not at all! I am not a spy! I just need help!” I informed him but neither of them seem convinced at all.
The ray of hope in my heart suddenly disappeared into thin air. Was I in trouble?
“Let’s seize her immediately!” The other guard suddenly yelled and even though I tried to run away, my legs suddenly became weak and my vision darkened with each second that passed till I surrendered to defeat.
