I want another mate!

XENOS’S POINT OF VIEW I go back, and as soon as I smell his scent, the golden rope starts forming, guiding me to him. He’s leaning against a wall, and thank God his eyes are closed because I freeze, staring at him like a freak. “Go to him.” Apollo speaks in a strange voice, but I don’t have time to question him now because my body seems to move toward him on its own, even though my mind changes its mind and tells me to run away. “I don’t want to go, Apollo,” I say in a pleading voice, trying to stop and turn around, but I can’t. “You need to go. Touch him and you’ll see,” Apollo whispers, making me frown in confusion. “See what?” “That’s for you to find out.” He sounds like a damn cheesy philosopher. The God-wolf version of Freud. He’s f*****g with me. Motherfucker. As I get closer, the scent intensifies, my heart races faster, butterflies flutter in my stomach, and my knees weaken, making me wonder if I’ll reach him or collapse and die along the way. His eyes snap open, and he looks at me, puzzled and expectant. “I need to see something. Don’t freak out.” That’s a stupid thing to say, but fortunately, he doesn’t say anything. I hesitantly grab his wrist, and he looks down at my hand, then back up into my eyes, confused as f**k. Well, that makes two of us, buddy. My body instantly ignites, and every sense sharpens. It’s like I can see everything through a magnifying glass. His eyes are like a magical spring forest, even more beautiful than Apollo’s forest, stretching endlessly before me. Looking into them feels like standing at the edge of something wild and gentle all at once. I can hear his heartbeat, my own heartbeat, the blood rushing through his veins, his breathing—so clear, so damned clear... the birds outside, the teachers’ voices, even pens scratching across notebook pages. But what’s worse is that the urge to get closer and do dumb things increases with each second. “f**k!” I freak out, let go of his hand, and back away slowly as if he’s a wild animal about to attack me. The moment I let go, everything returns to normal, and if I could, I would let out a huge breath of relief, but I can’t. My lungs have stopped working, and they haven’t recovered yet. The look in his eyes shows panic and complete confusion. Well, it’s not every day that a guy comes to you and acts like a maniac. I turn the first corner and run as fast as I can until the rope breaks, and I can no longer smell his scent. What the hell was that? “Apollo? Are you here?” I ask desperately. “Yes.” “Did you… how… the sounds… why?” I wait for him to mock me, especially about how I can’t even form a coherent question, but surprisingly, he doesn’t. “I expected something like this, but not to that extent. Normally, only your vision should improve, and maybe, if you’re lucky, your hearing too, but the change is almost unnoticeable.” I can hear the surprise in his voice, which frightens me. Gods aren’t supposed to be surprised. Right? “You’re a damn god! You should know why!” “As I said, normally. You’re not normal, Xenos.” He tries to keep his voice calm and steady, but I think he’s also freaking out. “You said that I’m not the only chosen one. Others were chosen before me as well. Didn’t that happen before? With them?” “No, it didn’t. And yes, there were others, but it seems that you’re more special than the special ones. Even though you’re a stupid, stubborn i***t, you’re also very intelligent and calm; not now, obviously, but you get the point. You have a big heart, and your spirit—your aura—is different, special. You’re the first one with pure golden fur and golden eyes. And that’s not just for aesthetics.” Yeah, interesting explanation. Doesn’t explain my sudden change of sexuality, though. Or anything for that matter. “f**k me dead and f**k me sideways! I’m one damn special motherfucker!” Apollo chuckles, and I roll my eyes. “And he’s also special. The bond between you two is like nothing I’ve ever seen.” “But he’s not a werewolf or any other kind of shifter or supernatural. I would’ve known. How can he be special?” I ask, confused, and Apollo sighs. “That, I don’t know. But it’s the first time I’ve felt the need for you to be near your mate. With the others, I didn’t feel that. Yes, it was good when they were with them because they were stronger, but I didn’t have this need.” “Well, now, I feel the need to clear my mind.” Apollo chuckles lightly, and I start running until I reach the woods, then take my clothes off and shift. I start running, enjoying the cool breeze brushing my golden fur, soothing me, and clearing my mind a little. With every second, new feelings flood through me—some exciting, some terrifying, and many still unknown. I realize that I’m so fast I can barely feel the ground under my big paws, and everything feels strangely different. The air is cooler and easier to breathe, and even at this speed, I can see the small bugs crawling on the trees and ground. Exciting, but terrifying. I stop at the river to drink some water, and I freeze as I see my reflection in the clear water. “Apollo, is it me, or am I bigger?” “It’s not you. You’re almost twice as fast as before.” I don’t know if I should laugh, cry, be happy, or sad. Or all of the above. Yeah, all of the above. “Is it because of him?” I ask, hoping the answer is no. I really don’t want a male mate. “Most likely, and stop with the male mate thing. I told you, it’s not about gender, it’s about the soul. And the soul has no gender!” he states angrily, making me roll my eyes. “Yes, but people aren’t always accepting of this. My own family might disown me, and I don’t need to spell that out, you know damn well. I guess you’ve heard of homophobia, right?” I sound sarcastic, even though I don’t intend it to. I understand he has a point, but it’s not as simple as he makes it seem. He’s right—humans are limited. “I did. But your family wouldn’t do that.” He tries to reassure me, but it’s not really helping. I could lose my position as Alpha, maybe even get kicked out of the pack. “And maybe he’s not even into men. And I’m not into men. And how can I be with someone all my life without f*****g? You know damn well that after you mark your mate, you can’t have s*x with someone else. I won’t jerk off for who knows how many hundreds of years!” Yes, we’re mortal, but we age very slowly. “That’s your problem now. s*x! You’re unbelievable! You’re not thinking about the fact that you’re bigger, that you hear and see a hundred times better, that I need to be near him, no! Xenos is thinking about his damn d**k!” he growls angrily, but I can’t help but laugh. It’s the first time he uses the word d**k, and it sounds weird coming from him. “Well, excuse me if I don’t want to die of blue balls.” He sighs heavily in defeat, and I can bet my life that he’s rolling his eyes. “You will survive. I promise!” he snaps with a hint of sarcasm, and now I’m rolling my eyes. I won’t survive! I can feel my end!! My body is perishing only at the thought!!! “Drama queen! i***t! Stupid! Retarded child—” “Are you even allowed to insult me? You’re a God, for f**k’s sake! And I’m f*****g special!” I snap, and he groans. “I’m not insulting you! I’m stating facts! Anyway, you won’t have to use your hand to satisfy your s****l desires. I felt your aura. You were five seconds away from kissing him, ten from having s****l intercourse with him, and fifteen from marking him. That’s why you ran.” The tone of his voice is the one that annoys me the most. It’s the I know everything tone, and I wasn’t… I don’t want him… I… f**k! “No, I wasn’t! That was you, maybe! I told you, I’m not attracted to him. And stop with the s****l intercourse and s**t! It’s called f*****g, Apollo!” I need to change the subject because I can’t want him. No matter what he says, I risk losing everything. “Denial. This will be fun. Note the sarcasm, retarded child!” he says in an exasperated voice, but I refuse to engage and start running back. This is crazy. Maybe it’s a dream. Hopefully. I get dressed and go back to school. The run is mostly useless, or maybe it makes things worse because as soon as I enter the school, the damn golden rope shows me the way to my mate. I know it’s not a huge college, but... for f**k’s sake! I hold my breath in case his scent reaches me, take a turn just to avoid him, try to calm myself down, and suppress this stupid need to go to him. “You can’t avoid him forever, you know that, right?” Apollo’s voice angers and annoys me more than it ever has. Oh, God, how I wish I had a way to shut him up. But, wait! I do have a way! I start looking for Laura, but she’s nowhere to be found. When I don’t need her, she’s always by my side, and when I do, she vanishes. Brilliant! “I’ll just let you be. You’ll come around.” “I don’t think so, Freud!” I say mockingly, and he laughs. And he calls himself a God!
