Sadie would never imagine to see the person outside the door. She especially didn’t expect to see her own mother looking like she had been roaming around the streets like a beggar. She scanned her mother’s appearance. Her sky blue matching shirt and pants were stained with ample amount of dirt and black marks. Her hair looked like a bird’s nest with small pieces of leaves and dirt. Her feet were wearing flip-flops caked in dry mud and two sizes smaller. It pained her to see that her mother’s heels looked chapped and the top of her feet appeared bruised. Sadie didn’t mean to step back and away from her but the expression on Selena’s dirt covered face and the blankness in her eyes made her react that way. It was like she’s a different person, not only because of her appearance
