Lucien
As she left the room, I could not help but smile.
She was an interesting one.
There are very few people that dare to talk to me like that.
Even fewer dare to defy me, but this little wolf has no problem with either of those things.
There is also the light in her eyes as she defied me so fiercely... how she challenged me with every word.
NO.
I had to stop thinking about her like that.
She is dangerous, and I'm already skimming the edge of a cliff that I will tumble down very easily if I let her charms hypnotize me.
Shaking my head, I sat down and pulled out my tablet, doing my best to ignore her scent that still lingered in the room.
Her sweet alluring scent, that made my mouth water...
NO.
I had mentally shaken myself out of the direction in which my thoughts were going. Her scent still lingered in the room, making it almost impossible for me to think about anything else other than her... other than replay the memories of how she tasted... of how she looked under me...
NO.
With more force than needed, I pushed myself out of the chair and walked out of the office. As soon as I stepped out of the room, Richard appeared, and he was followed by the director of the training facility.
They both made a small bow as they approached me.
"Your majesty, I hope the meeting went well."
"Well enough."
I answered him, making sure that my expression would be unreadable.
"Great, now would you like to take a tour? Or maybe you would like to see this year's group? There are quite a few promising faces there."
I have toured this facility many times already, and I have seen all of it many times. Nothing has changed over the years, and I am sure this year is no exception. I have no wish to tour it again. So I guess seeing this year's group would be interesting, especially because I have met some of them personally already when I spent time with Vivian. It would be very interesting to see them in different surroundings. The face of a particularly annoying monkey came to mind. I'm interested in seeing how high he scored... and, of course, to see her again. The glimpses I remember from the physical training class were promising... I can't ignore the curiosity I feel right now.
"Let's see the future of the empire, the facility can wait."
"Of course, Sir. This way please. They are having an endurance test today. The task is to run thirty kilometers."
"Sounds easy enough."
"Yes, it's not the hardest test we have, but it's the least lethal way to see who is made to be part of the academy."
Smugness in the man's voice was a clear indication that he was proud of his position.
We stopped in front of a double door that led into a glass-walled balcony that overlooked what looked like a running track with multiple obstacles that runners would have to overcome in order to finish the task. There were jumps, climbing walls and all other fun activities that made finishing the track not as easy as I first anticipated it to be.
From here, I could clearly see everyone who was running. There were few that clearly had already finished and a few that really struggled. After a few moments, I recognized a few faces, but it was quite hard to make out who was who... but then I saw her enter the field.
There was no mistaking or ignoring her. I could not take my eyes away from her. She stepped into the arena and started running.
She was a sight to see, the grace she moved on. It was not something I ignored, not that I could even try if I wanted to. My fox was growling in lust as we watched her pass people and obstacles with ease.
I stayed the whole time she was running and as she finished her distance she just turned to walk out of the arena. The moment she was about to step out of the room, she turned and looked right at me. For a second, our eyes met, and I was sure she knew that I was staring at her the whole time.
Shit.
And just as soon as she found me, she just turned on her heel and left the room.
The way she just dismissed me with her eyes... it stirred a part of me that I wanted to ignore so much, but curiosity got better of me and I turned to the director.
"The girl that just left the room, what's her score?"
Confused, he looked at me and turned to one of the touchscreens on the window next to us.
"One minute, I will check... mmm... yes, Vivian Cliffwind... yes her score. She finished seventh in her class with a score of eighty-seven out of a hundred. As a wolf hybrid, it's one of the best scores I have seen in a while. Running speed is not something that wolves excel at... well, unless they are chasing someone."
He said with a smile on his face, but his eyes were clearly confused as to why I cared about her.
"Hmm... okay, now the tour you mentioned?"
I said and he almost jumped with excitement. It was clear that he wanted to show off his domain, not that I cared about it at all. If not for Vivian, I would not be here, but now that I am here, I have to deal with the pesky official duties.
He led me down the halls telling me about all the things they changed or planned to do, but I could hardly concentrate on any of it. My mind kept turning to her and an idea popped into my mind... I have no way to reach her... and I do not like the idea of being out of contact with her. It's because I might need her if my hormones pop off, and I start my heat unexpectedly... or maybe she will start hers and my fox hates the idea of someone else helping her through her heat. So maybe...
"Can I ask for a favor?"
My sudden question shocked the man.
"Yes, sir?"
"There is a student in the first year that I have enlisted to help me with secret duties for the empire and I need to have direct contact with them at all times. Would it be a problem if we, let's say, gave her a phone with a limited connection?"
The director looked confused.
"And if you would help me out with this, I am sure that the emperor's office could approve of the few improvements you want to make for the children?"
The mention of money he would get in return cleared up any and all questions he had.
"Ofcourse. I'm sure that it's very important. I will let the security team know, and they will take care of that."
"Great, Richard? Please arrange a phone delivery, and please attach this message."
I pulled out a card from my pocket alongside a pen and wrote a short message to Vivian.
"Of course sir."
After handing it to a smiling Richard, I turned to the director.
"If that is it, I have a few meetings that I need to attend."
"Yes, of course sir. I will escort you to the rooms we prepared for you."
The whole way, he continued to talk to me about meaningless stuff that I could not force myself to think about and that was when the first wave of uneasiness hit me.
I could not call it pain... but something was off...
"This is it, sir... Is everything okay?"
"Yes, thank you."
I plastered on a fake smile and stepped into the room, closing the door after myself.
Finally, alone in the room, I felt another wave of these phantom feelings of uneasiness hit me. They were intense, to the point where I had to stand frozen in the middle of the room with my eyes closed.
What the hell?
