Dream on "little" girl
...
White stripes of light lurked thru shadows of the forest as she tried to escape.
It wasn't obvious, why she tried to run, or who was chasing her. Surrounding seemed to have familiar lines, and she knew, that narrow walkway leads to safety.
She had no fear since she felt, that all this is just a dream. But for some reason, she could not wake up.
Walkway turned to the right and led her to the lakeshore. She froze at the moment as she saw big gray horse drinking water.
Carefully she looked around to avoid contact with horse owner. Her glance told her, that horse is left alone.
As she came closer horse snorted and shook head as he wished to tell her what happened. Fully harnessed and saddled, was covered with sweat but looked calm.
" Where did you leave your master?" she asked as she came closer.
Cracking from forest remembered her about escaping. Without further thinking, she jumped to the saddle and moved the horse along the lakeshore.
...
Ringtone of her phone could not be escaped, so she opened eyes and slowly left the bed.
The smell of the wet horse, ground after rain and smoke remained in her nose drills. While shaking head she went to bath and took a shower before leaving to work.
As a professor, she remained most of her time at the history department where she held lectures and had own cabinet.
"Professor Woodcraft," stopped her porter as she entered university.
"A visitor is waiting for you in the lobby."
Not that tall vivid man walked forward her followed by dean Paisley.
"Nice to meet you professor Woodcraft," said the man dressed like for safari. The only missing piece was the hat.
"Clementine, let me introduce to you doctor Jennings," said dean. "Let's get into my office for some coffee and talk."
The office was a spacious room with wooden walls covering and antique furniture that remembered maybe times of university founders. Thick carpets on the floor vanished sound of their steps. Chesterfield leather couch and chairs made visitors feel comfortable and relaxed. Secretary brought the coffee and doctor Jennings set his eyes at Clementine.
Dean spoke first: "Clementine, I dared to tell doctor Jennings more about you, as you are the best candidate for the task to help with. You are expert at Juan dynasty and you speak Mongolian as well as Mandarin, what is the reason why I recommended you for this expedition. Of course, if you agree to join."
She took part in expeditions for excavations before, so her eyes burned with expectations. But she controlled her curiosity and let talk doctor Jennings.
"We started preliminary research a year before, as our sponsor, who wishes to stay secret, requested to explore aerial images of the land near Hoh Nuur lake. He went there for vacation and to discover a country where his grand grandmother came from. The native guide led him to mountains and they found sepulture there which is uncovered and Mongolian National History Museum hasn't registered it yet. So he decided to help with the expedition."
"Mongolian National History Museum accepted his offer and he got official permission to start research on the spot," Dean continued.
"And what exactly should be mine part?" asked Clementine finally.
Doctor Jennings smiled at her: "We hope to get your attention after I show you pictures we got from the site. It looks really interesting. We found in mountains with surface mapping possibility of lost and long ago buried the whole city. It appears that it wasn't built above the earth traditional way, but it was carved in stone to complement the underground caves.
Your goal is to provide professional expertise on-site, because it's possible, that we will be first people to see that place after centuries. Your deep knowledge of Mongolian and Chinese history, as well as knowledge of old texts and scripts with an immediate chance to analyze them, will bring huge progress to excavation.
Please think about this and let me know when you decide to take part in the expedition."
Dean handed her documents: "Think about it as well as a prestigious representation of our university, this grant helps us a lot, and we all gain many benefits as you can see here."
"Expedition starts in two weeks because our sponsor burns with impatience to see the first results. So please consider it professor Woodcraft."
"It is a great opportunity as I can see, I would love to say yes immediately, just please let me think about it before I make a final decision. Please excuse me, but my students wait for the consultations," said Clementine overwhelmed with sudden feeling, which she did not understand.
Dang, what she needs to think about? It's once in a lifetime opportunity, but she needs to think about it? She could not believe what just happened. Why did she hesitate already? Reason boldly led her forward. The words that came out of her mouth seemed to belong to someone else. She blushed suddenly as if she was caught at something strange and bid farewell to both gentlemen.
The day passed quickly and she did everything that she imagined. Her phone rang:
"Hey Katie, your telepathic abilities are unbelievable. Let's get dinner together if you are free."
"My treat, I need to talk with you anyway," sounded cheerful answer.
Katie was her roommate at school times. More than sister she never had and always wished for. Yet her presence was able to dispel serious thoughts.
"I'll wait for you at dinner next university as usual."
"In ten minutes?"
"O.k."
Dinner was their favorite place, it was neat, the kitchen was great and the staff was always friendly.
As Kate saw her face, she baffed out of the first: "Oh my, Emmie, what happened?"
"Well, weird dream and next weird day, but what surprised me was my reaction."
