Chapter 10Making his way into the side streets behind Piccadilly, Jo brooded over Ben’s tidings as he strode towards the modest Soho chop house where he had arranged to meet Daniel after their working day. Since he had engineered their coming together, Jo had been honest when he expressed his happiness for Ben and Edward. The contrast between the injured, broken, angry Ben of eighteen months ago and the whole-hearted man with a renewed vigour and passion for life was entirely caused by Edward’s influence. Jo reasoned he could be delighted for them both while still disappointed in his own circumstances, namely that he and his true love could not live together.
