EMILY'S POV,
"I suddenly found myself in a jungle, bewildered as I had gone to sleep in my room. How did I even end up here! While I was thinking, I heard a noise from my right and spotted a dog? A huge dog. Dogs aren’t supposed to be this big!
Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a gray wolf with striking blue eyes. Feeling imminent danger, I ran, and the wolf chased after me. Eventually, it caught up to me and pounced on me, but instead of attacking, it began to lick me like a pet dog."
I woke up at that very moment, covered in sweat, panting. Realizing I was back in my room, I glanced at the clock—it was 4 in the morning. The jungle, the wolf—it had all been a dream.
Lily was sleeping right beside me.
I got out of bed and poured myself a glass of water, but I couldn’t fall asleep again. Every time I closed my eyes, the image of the wolf kept flashing before my eyes.
Morning finally arrived after hours of tossing and turning. I got ready for work, still unsettled by the vivid dream.
I got out of bed and woke Lily up.
Waking her up is a mission in itself. She can sleep through anything and everything.
One time after a massive earthquake, I called to check on her. And when asked, she said she didn’t even realize, and she was living on the 16th floor at that time.
Anyway, after waking her up, I said, "I am going to get ready. Can you order us some breakfast?"
"Okay," she replied groggily.
After some time, I came out all dressed up. I wore a red top, blue jeans, and tied my hair in a bun.
Our breakfast arrived.
Lily and I had our breakfast, and I told her about my weird dream.
“You stay all day with animals, so you had that dream, I guess. Your subconscious mind played a trick on you.” she said.
I found that reasonable. So I nodded in agreement.
"I guess this is the case. But I must say the wolf was... huge but cute!"
After eating breakfast,
“Your car went to be repaired, right? Let me drop you off today. I am going to get my car.” Lily said.
“Yup. Thanks for dropping me off today. My head is hurting so much because of the drinks last night. You go and get your car, I'll be there in a minute.”
After a few minutes, I left my apartment and bumped into Alexander again.
"Good morning, Emily.”
"Good morning.”
"Are you okay? You look somewhat sick. Do you need to go to the hospital?" he asked me.
"No. I am alright. I just didn't sleep well last night. That's all.”
As we reached the ground floor, he asked, "Do you need a ride? We're going in the same direction, so I can drop you."
"No need, but thank you for asking. Lily is dropping me off today," I replied with a smile.
Then he bid me farewell, and I went to Lily.
After getting into Lily's car, she asked with a big grin, "So what were you two talking about?"
"Who?"
"Come on, who else! Alexander Wolfe. You know, I have this feeling that he is into you. I could tell for sure the way he was looking at you last night."
"Like seriously, Lily, why is your head filled with these types of thoughts! Think out of the box for once," I said with a sigh.
"Then how would you explain him inviting you to that housewarming party? Now don’t give me this that it's because you are neighbors. He didn’t invite anyone else from the building. Explain this." she said with the same big grin and added, "Finally, my friend is going to get a good, handsome, and rich boyfriend."
I facepalmed myself, "I can't reason with you anymore."
"Stop talking about me. Let’s talk about you and what was his name again, right, Grover?" I said with a smirk.
"What about him? It was just a coincidence that I met him yesterday," Lily said with a shy look on her face.
"Come on, tell me more about it," I said teasingly.
"There’s nothing else, trust me. But he is into me, I am sure," Lily said.
"So what do you plan to do?" I asked.
"Now, that depends completely on him. Let’s wait and see if he can win me over," Lily said with a wink.
Talking and laughing, we reached my clinic. Lily said goodbye and left to do her own things.
The day started completely normal, but then my ex came to ruin the day for me.
Max barged into my clinic and said hysterically, "Em, please give me another chance. It was a one-time mistake. You have blocked me everywhere. I can't call you or text you to explain."
At this point, I am really annoyed by him and started to think, “What did I even see in him to date this guy? He is so…gross.”
For the thousandth time, I told him clearly that he didn't stand any chance; he himself ruined it, and told him to get lost.
After throwing a tantrum, he left, but he threatened me while leaving. He said I would regret not forgiving him and all. Like as if I care!
All this made me really exhausted, so I took a short break, went to the resting lounge, and closed my eyes for a bit.
Then I dreamt again,
"Again, I am standing in the middle of nowhere. But the place is breathtaking. It’s night, but the moon is so bright that I could see everything near me, surrounding me. When I took a few steps, I saw a clear stream in front of me. It’s glittering with the moonlight. The place is surrounded by big, long trees. Then I suddenly felt something plopping near my feet. I looked at my feet, and there was that big and beautiful gray wolf. He was resting peacefully. Then, against my every logic and thinking, I stroked its head. It opened its eyes for a bit, like it was surprised, but then closed again and started purring with my every stroke. He was enjoying my touch, and I was enjoying touching his soft gray fur. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful. All the fear I felt when I first saw the wolf vanished in an instant. Right now, it looks just like a puppy enjoying his strokes."
I woke up in a wonderful mood. I liked this dream. It brought calmness to my head.
After the rest, I went back to my work. The rest of the day was quiet.
Now it’s time to go home.
I know I am going to have problems these days because my car is getting repaired.
I need to change that old car, but I can’t. At least not now. All of my money and savings went to the clinic, so I have no extra budget to get a new car. I have to make do with the old run-down car.
Though this is not the only reason. The car is my first after all… It's practically my family at this point.
As I was thinking about this and looking for a cab, Alexander stopped in front of me.
Need a ride? …
