EMILY'S POV,
My sleep was light today. Maybe because I was exhausted to the point that my brain stopped considering sleep.
I usually sleep with my balcony doors open, because I live quite a bit above ground level. I have an open space in front of my balcony. I enjoy spending my leisure time sitting here with a cup of coffee in one hand and a novel in the other.
Today I felt like someone was in my room except me. But my poor, exhausted brain couldn’t take it anymore. So I drift into deep sleep after some time. But the lingering feeling stayed in the back of my head.
After a good night's sleep, I woke up feeling refreshed and with a nagging feeling that someone was here.
But then again, how can this be? No one in this world is bold enough to climb up this many floors. Unless there is a supernatural being.
I had to start early today. I freshened up, had my breakfast, and left for the clinic. In the elevator, I met Alexander.
"Good morning, Emily," he said, smiling.
"Good morning, Mr. Wolfe," I returned the smile.
"Don't call me Mr. Wolfe now that we are neighbors. Call me Alexander, or even better, call me Alex," he said with a grin.
I nodded. "Did you have breakfast?" he asked.
"Yes, I had mine."
It kind of felt weird to call his name directly, so I just bypassed calling him.
We reached the ground floor, and we bid goodbye to each other. I was glad that I could get out of that awkward situation.
He went to his car, and I went to my darling car, but unfortunately for me, my tire was flat. Somehow all four of them.
So I dialed my regular garage and booked an appointment to repair my car.
After that, I opened my ride-hailing app and started to look for a taxi. But there was none available. Maybe because it was rush hour.
So, I went ahead to the main street to the bus stop.
When I was waiting for the bus, a car stopped right in front of me.
When the window of the car I saw it was Alexander.
"What happened to your ride?"
"My tire needs changing, and there are no taxis available, so I am here waiting for the bus."
"Let me drop you off. It’s on my way." he insisted.
“Did I ever tell him where I was headed to!” I thought to myself.
Even before I had finished thinking, somehow I ended up inside his car.
Maybe the confusion was too evident on my face, he broke the silence, "I saw you work there on my way to work yesterday, and there's only one vet clinic there," with a smile.
But that didn't dispel my doubt.
"Though he is attractive, was he trustworthy?" I thought to myself.
He dropped me off in front of my clinic. I thanked him for the ride.
The day started as usual. During some free time, I called Lily. "Hey Lily, what have you been up to? Are you free this evening?"
"Yep, I am. What's up?" she said.
"Not much, I just got a housewarming invitation. Would you like to come with me?"
"Sure, why not? Where there's food, there's me. Hehe. But whose housewarming? Do I know them?" she asked.
"Yeah, you do. Do you remember that Alexander Wolfe? He just moved to the apartment next to mine. He's the one who invited us," I replied.
“Wait, the same Alexander Wolfe we met at the banquet?”
“Yeah, the same one.”
“But why did he move to your neighborhood! I heard from my brother that he is one of the richest in the state. And he’s got countless properties. So why there?”
"Yes, and it seems like he's a Mr. Know-It-All, too," I added.
"How so?" she asked.
"Well, two things happened that weirded me out. Last night, he knew which floor I live on, and this morning, when he dropped me off, he knew where I work too. I never mentioned any of that to him," I said.
"He gave me reasons for these, but still..." I added.
"Maybe he's interested in you somehow. You know how these rich people are – they can know about anything or anyone they want, just like those characters in romance novels. Take my word for it, he might be interested in you. So, I think he's trying to pursue you," she said.
"Why would he like someone like me? He can have any woman, so why me?" I asked.
"Girl, since when were you so under-confident? You're pretty, you've got brains, and you've just started your own thing. You're a catch. Any guy with brains would love you, so stop feeling like this," she said.
We talked for some time before going back to work. But again, I felt like I was being watched.
After work, I went home. Just as I entered and closed the door, the doorbell rang. I opened the door and saw Alexander in casual clothes, unlike his usual office attire in the morning.
With a smile, he said, "I'm here to remind you about the housewarming party. I hope you didn't forget."
"Oh, I didn't," I replied with a smile. "Can I bring a friend with me?"
"Of course you can," he replied with a smile and then left.
After some time, Lily came, and we went to his apartment together. He welcomed us, saying, "Make yourselves comfortable."
Inside, he already had a few guests, and I recognized one person who was dancing with Lily the last time. Alexander introduced everyone to each other. They all seemed well-built, including the girl with them, whose name is Rose.
We all talked for a while, played a few rounds of Monopoly, and I also noticed Grover trying to pursue Lily.
I will definitely ask her about this when we get home.
When the food was ready, Alexander called us to eat.
We enjoyed the delicious food that Alexander's friends mentioned he had cooked himself.
"It's the first time we are eating the food mighty Alexander cooked. Let's enjoy it," teased the guy named Ian, and everyone laughed.
I enjoyed their company, they were fun company and Alexander was even more attractive now that I knew he could cook.
After eating and drinking a bit, Lily and I came back to my house and plopped down on our couch.
Now start talking. What’s going on between you and Grover? Come on, start spilling the tea.
"Since that day at the banquet, he has been constantly after me. He appears anywhere and everywhere I go, and I am kind of attracted to him, too. So, I was thinking of giving it a shot. Let's see where it goes." Lily replied.
After gossiping and laughing and enjoying our late-night snacks, we were tired and fell asleep.
