CHAPTER-14

EMILY'S POV, I woke up to my phone buzzing. The call was from none other than my bestie. “Have you woken up yet, sleeping beauty? If not, then hurry up. Otherwise, we will be late and lose the beautiful spot.” Lily’s voice came from the phone. “Bro, it’s finally Sunday. Let me sleep a bit more, okay. It's just 10. Just 30 more minutes, please.” “No, not a minute more. Wake up and get ready. Our planning can’t go wrong. If we are late, we will miss the view.” Lily said. “What are you talking about? Huh! Wait, today we are supposed to go camping and watch a meteor shower!” My eyes flew open. A few days ago, Lily came running to me, telling me that this Sunday there would be a once-in-a-century meteor shower. We made plans to go camping and enjoy the view. “Yep. Now get up, get ready, and pack some snacks. I got food. I’ll be there to pick you up in an hour.” Lily said. “Okay.” Since college days, we've gone camping whenever we have time. It’s one of our ways to forget our problems and enjoy each other’s company. As I woke up, last night came back to me. How Alexander and I ate together—though not for the first time, it felt…special. And how I met my jerk ex. Which almost ruined my mood to eat. Then, how Alexander dealt with him. It was really satisfying to be honest. I loved the look on his face when thrown out. Most importantly, I liked spending time with Alexander. I don’t understand. I have known him for only a few days. So how do I feel so happy whenever I am with him? Why does he always give me this feeling, unknown to me? “Emily, stop wasting time and get ready, or Lily will haunt you if you are late.” I packed some snacks and drinks, a book, some instant coffee, a set of extra clothing, and my sleeping bag. Then I got ready and had breakfast, and waited for her. Exactly an hour later, she came downstairs. When I was going out, I ran into Alexander. I suppose he came from a morning run. He smiled and said, “Good morning, Emily. Going somewhere?” “Morning. I am going camping with Lily. Today is supposed to be a once-in-a-century meteor shower. So we planned camping to enjoy the view.” I replied with a smile. “Didn’t know it was today. Where are you going for this? Tell me, could I join too?” He asked. “It's on the west of the city outskirts.” It felt like his eyes lit up hearing this. “If you are not busy, then maybe yes. You can join us. I need to go now, Alexander Lily’s waiting for me. See you later.” Then I went my way. “Finally, you are here. What took you so long?” Lily asked. “I ran into Alexander and talked briefly,” I replied. “Alexander...” Lily said with a suspicious smile. “Ew, don’t give me a weird smile, Lily. We just ran into each other, nothing more.” I defended myself. “Yes…yes. I understand. No need to explain anymore.” She said with the same weird smile. “And he might have just invited himself to the camping with us.” “Wow, you are already this close. You have hidden it well.” Lily said with a sly smile. “Don’t be like this. He might not even join us. He might have said as a passing comment.” Then, to divert the topic, I asked, “How did you find the place? Never heard of that before.” “Do you remember Grover? We met at the party, then at Alexander’s party, he told me about this place,” she said. Now it’s my turn to give that weird smile, “So someone is about to get a boyfriend and didn’t bother to tell me.” “It’s not like that, Emily, we just had a date or two. I think I kind of like him. So… so I am thinking about if I should go for this. He seems sincere.” Lily said with a smile and a bit of seriousness. Lily is the kind of girl to give her thousand percent to her relationships. If she is considering him, then I guess she is serious about it, too. “If you like him and he is a decent guy, then that’s all that is needed. As long as you are happy. You have my unconditional support.” I said with a reassuring smile. “I know Emily.” She said. We arrived at our destination after an hour or so of driving. The location is absolutely stunning, surrounded by lush greenery and a beautiful lake, and there were only a few people around. Lily mentioned that we needed to venture deeper into the area to reach our camping site. As we made our way through the trees, we stumbled upon an incredible sight. Despite its beauty, the place felt strangely familiar, although I couldn't quite recall where I had seen it before. We found ourselves in a gorgeous flower field with a crystal clear pond, offering a perfect view of the sunset. We set up our tent, then Lily bought out the food she got for us, and I got the snacks. “Now tell me about Alexander and you. Can I hope for him to be your um…” Lily said, chewing her food. “I don’t know about that, but I can tell he is a good guy. But if there’s a chance for us or not, I don’t know. We need to wait and see. But I can say, I feel comfortable around him. I like being with him.” “I think he likes you. If not, then he is blind. I mean, how can anyone not like you? I still wonder how you end up with that Max.” Lily said. “I guess I was blind then, I mean, who doesn’t make a few mistakes her whole life?” I replied with a laugh. Then I told Lily about how I went to eat with Alexander and about my and Max’s encounter. Then, he was thrown out by Alexander. After hearing the story, Lily started to laugh like crazy and said, “So satisfying. I wish I were there to watch the scene. I like Alexander more now. He did great.” “I found it satisfying, too.” I said, laughing. Then I felt a stare, I looked around but saw no one. Lily saw me looking around and asked, “What are you looking for?” “I just felt eyes on me. I have been feeling this since the party we went to. But can’t find anything or anyone. Anyway, maybe it's all in my head.” I said. Then Lily looked around too, but saw no one and said, “There’s no one, and I felt nothing. Grover said this place was found by him and his friends. Not many people know about this place.” So I dismissed the feeling. While talking and laughing, it was time for sunset. It was really breathtaking as expected. I haven’t seen a sunset this beautiful. After sunset, we set up our fire. Then we both heard a noise from behind us. We looked in the direction and saw a pair of glowing blue eyes. It’s a full moon night. So we could see clearly. It came out in the light, and I saw something I never imagined I would see. A gray wolf with beautiful blue eyes. Just like my dreams…
