ALEX’S POV,
I thought Emily would sleep in on Sunday, so I went for a quick run.
When I came back, I saw her going somewhere with a bag.
“Good morning, Emily. Going somewhere?”
“Morning. Lily and I are going camping. Today is supposed to be a once-in-a-century meteor shower. Lily said she found a hidden gem to enjoy the view.”
“Where is that? Tell me, I would like to go camping too.”
“Lily said it's on the west of the city outskirts. Never been there before, so can not tell you the exact location.”
Right when I heard that, I knew it was inside my pack area. I became extremely happy knowing that she was going there.
Although we are werewolves, we still have everyday needs and responsibilities, which means we have to earn a living just like anyone else. Some of the packs, especially those whose territories include particularly scenic landscapes, have started to rent out parts of their land for camping or organize outdoor activities for visitors. This not only brings in extra income but also gives outsiders a chance to appreciate the natural beauty of our territory.
Knowing she was heading that way filled me with anticipation. Maybe this could be the perfect opportunity to invite her to the pack house, to show her a place that's both a part of my world and, perhaps, could someday become a part of hers. The house is still undergoing renovation—there’s about ten percent of the work left to finish—but I can't help imagining how she might look wandering through the halls, her laughter echoing in rooms that have never known such warmth. Even with things unfinished, the thought of sharing that space with her, even just for a little while, sends a flutter through my chest.
But there remains the threat of that person. I haven’t even found the traitor yet.
But I really want to take her to the pack house.
Forget it, I’ll see when anything happens. I can protect her if something happens.
“I need to go now; Alexander Lily’s waiting for me. See you later.” she said and left.
After a few minutes, Grover called me, “Alex, last time Lily talked to me about going camping, so I recommended the place at our pack border. That palace is where we usually go camping. And no need to thank me for this.”
I could see his grin through the call.
Okay, they got to know about the place through Grover. “You did a good job. You will be rewarded. And now get more security around the area.” I said with a huge smile on my face.
“Wait for me at the pack; I’ll be there in an hour and a half,” I said.
After the call ended, I went to my apartment and got ready to go out.
Then I went to the supermarket and bought her favorite snacks for her.
At my pack house, we have all kinds of food and snacks. We werewolves can eat five times more than humans.
So, I would like to get some snacks just for her, just in case she comes to the pack house.
Then I went to the pack house.
When I got there, I went to my room, and it was almost finished and needed just some touch-ups here and there.
The work started in full swing after I said their Luna might visit them today.
And they said they would speed up the process to finish before tonight.
I stayed at the pack house and finished some urgent work, though I kept watch on her through the camera.
Yes, my whole pack house is covered in cameras, and even the places we rent for camping are covered in cameras. Because anything can happen in these woods.
Fortunately, everything was finished before evening, my work and the renovations.
I checked everything for the last time. Everything was in place.
Even the designer clothes, shoes, and bags came in today and were placed carefully in our dressing room.
She can buy more if she wants, but this is a small gesture to show her my love for her.
After sunset, I went to see her at the camping place.
She was preparing for a BBQ.
She looked beautiful in the light of the full moon. She was practically shining. I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
But at that moment, Lex took control of me and shifted, and before I could think or do anything, he started to go towards her.
The moment she heard the noise Lex made while walking, she looked in our direction.
I could see so many emotions in her pretty eyes, one of them was horror.
I hate that look in her eyes.
But after she saw me clearly in the moonlight, I noticed surprise in her eyes.
Why is the surprised look? It’s something like she is not watching Lex for the first time.
I could understand her horror at seeing a huge gray wolf, but not her surprise.
Then Lex said in my mind, “Let’s try if she likes me or not.” with a smirk.
The way he said that had me thinking.
Then he slowly went toward her. At first, she seems to be going backward.
But then she tripped on a stone and fell. She sat up but didn’t move or couldn’t.
Lex slowly approached her and then plopped down at her feet.
She still didn’t move or attempt to move. After sitting like that for a while, she finally moved, and she stroked Lex’s head as if she were patting a dog.
When she started to stroke, I was surprised that she didn’t run or scream but was patting.
Then Lex said in my mind, “See, she likes me. She is patting me, stroking my fur.” A happy purr left his mouth.
She was getting more and more comfortable with Lex, and I was shamelessly jealous of my counterpart.
Then I heard her friend say, “Do you know this huge dog, Emily?”
“Dog! She called me a dog! How dare she? I am a wolf, an alpha wolf?”
Lex growled and snarled at her.
I am sure they could only hear him growl; they both got startled by this.
“Hey, tone it down, Lex, you are scaring our mate.”
Only then does Lex seem to calm down.
Then we heard Emily say, “Lily, stop calling him a dog, or he will come hunt you. You should be grateful that he doesn’t understand human language.” She said, laughing.
“Why? If it isn’t a dog, then what is it?”
“Well, it is a wolf. And a beautiful wolf.”
“I have never seen a wolf; no wonder I didn’t know it was one.”
“I haven’t seen one in real life for so long. But I recently saw one in my dreams. And this wolf is way too similar to that. If I didn’t know any better, I would think this one and that one are the same.” Emily said.
Dream? What is she talking about? I am confused. Was the dream I had last time just a regular dream, or did I somehow see our future?
I was confused, and Lex wasn’t that helpful either.
I need to look for more info about these dreams. Maybe I can find something in our library if I look for it.
“Oh my, your fur is so silky and smooth, and it even shines in the light. Just like the wolf cub I saw years ago and the one I have seen in my dreams for the last few days,” Emily said to Lex.
Now I am really confused about the dreams she is talking about.
After dinner, Emily shared some meat with Lex, which he gladly accepted.
After spending some time with Emily, he told me in my mind, “I am going now, though I don’t want to go.”
“I think it will rain tonight, so think of a way to take her to our pack house.”
While walking away from Emily, he gave her a lingering gaze. Seeing him leave, Emily waved her hand.
Then I heard thunder. I guess Lex is right. It will rain soon…
