ALEX'S POV
Today has been the same old monotonous day at home, sitting in my study and working with a cup of herbal tea.
It's not like I lack anything to feel this way. Well, I do. I lack something.
I have yet to find my mate. I lack the one person made for me.
It's been 10 years since I have been looking for that special connection, and each passing day only deepens the ache of longing in my heart. While my friends have all found their partners and settled down, I remain alone, consumed by the hope that one day I will finally meet the person who completes me. That one person, 10 years of me becoming of age. I've looked everywhere I could possibly think, but no results. I can't find her. As if she never existed.
Usually, our kind finds their mate right after becoming an adult, but that wasn't the case for me.
Our kind, as in werewolf kind. And also yes, yes, I am a werewolf. But not just an ordinary werewolf. I am the alpha of my pack. Also, the most powerful person/wolf in this region.
Anyway, as I was saying. It feels like a part of my soul is missing, and I can't find peace. No matter what I do, what I achieve. I never feel at peace.
Our mates bring us peace and comfort. For an alpha, a mate is the utmost necessity to keep him grounded and to think rationally.
So, as the alpha of my pack, CRISTAL, one of the biggest packs in the region, I can feel the need for my mate more than anyone.
Sometimes I wonder if the moon goddess forgot to send my mate to the world.
As the most powerful businessperson in the country, I don't need to go to the office to work; I can work from home. The purpose of the business is mostly to give my pack members a place to work.
I asked my assistant to bring today's schedule to me. But the person who came with the schedule is my beta Grover, who also holds a position in the corporation and has been one of my friends from childhood.
Looking at my always emotionless face, he said jokingly, “If only you could bring any emotion to that handsome face of yours. All your looks are in vain because of your expressions.”
Then he handed me my schedule and an envelope that looked like an invitation and sat in front of me on the couch.
“You are done with all your work? If so, don’t waste my time and see yourself out.” I said with much irritation.
Though I am his alpha, our long friendship is the reason I take his fun as fun and not disrespectful; he has been with me since I remember.
I opened the envelope in my hands, and I was right. It’s an invitation to a ballroom-themed party.
I always try to ignore this type of party, as they drain my energy like a vampire drains your blood.
“I won’t be attending the party. If you want, you go and enjoy it.” I kept it aside and started with the work that needed my attention.
"Alex, the party is hosted by one of our vampire partners. I think we should attend. And I don’t know, but I have a good feeling about this party. As if something unimaginably good will happen. So let’s go. And it has also been a long time since you last showed your face to the world." Grover said, With, I don’t know, determination!
It made me ponder for a few moments, and then I agreed.
“By the way, if you didn’t notice, the party is tomorrow, and I cleared your schedule for the evening.” Then Grover stood up, gave me his big smile, and went out.
After Grover left, my wolf Lex came to the surface, and he said, “Just as the beta said, I also have a good feeling about this. But I just cannot guess what a good thing is. I am excited to see what unfolds.”
“And here I thought you hated this kind of event more than me,” I replied with a smirk.
“Yeah, I do hate them. But I just feel the need to attend this.” He replied to me with what sounded like irritation.
NEXT DAY,
Today started like any other day with my usual routine of training, breakfast, and work. However, my wolf, Lex, seemed unusually restless. Maybe I should put it differently; he seemed positively excited, like a 5-year-old, for some reason.
Lex has been with me since the beginning, and without a mate, he sometimes struggles to contain his anger. But today, he is struggling to contain his happiness and excitement.
I tried to ignore him, but he wasn’t letting me ignore him and his excitement for today's party.
When the time came, I and Grover left for the party. It took us almost 30 minutes to arrive.
When we reached the party, we were greeted by the host of the party. Andrew William, the vampire partner of ours. He is also the biggest name among the vampires in this region.
“Welcome, Alexander, I thought you wouldn’t attend this party like the last one.”
“So should I leave now!” I said with a smirk and walked inside the venue. Though we have been in business together for a certain time and kind of, I am saying this again kind of friends, and for some reason, he loves to tease me; I don’t seem to hate him. I also don’t like him that much in particular. I just find him bearable.
When I was walking inside the venue, many people came to greet me, both known and unknown faces. I had already started to feel irritated. I hate being in this type of crowd. But now that I have arrived, I cannot just leave. I need to be here for at least 30 minutes.
As I entered the venue, my wolf started to go wild in my mind. Saying he is smelling something good. Something like mate.
Being surrounded by a lot of people, I finally locked my eyes on the prettiest woman I had ever seen, and my wolf started to scream, “MATE… MATE… GO TO HER BEFORE SHE IS LOST.” And I was greeted by a sweet scent, and I couldn’t identify the smell. But it is the nicest scent I have ever smelled.
She is stunning, with big brown eyes, standing at 5.8 ft, and wearing a beautiful black dress. I could not ask for more from the moon goddess. However, lost in her beauty and presence, I realized that she was HUMAN, not a wolf.
I cursed in my head and was already worried about how to explain things to her. How to approach her so that she won’t be scared of me. So many different scenarios started to play in my head.
I don’t usually overthink things, but the fact of her being a human made me overthink.
That is when my wolf barked at me and said, “Stop overthinking, you dumb human. How did I even end up with you? Why don’t you have faith in our fate and approach her?”
“And why do you think I don’t want to go to her and take her home right away or that I don’t have faith in our fate? I just don’t want her to be scared of us. I want to go with her pace.” I replied to my wolf.
When I was still talking with Lex, Grover said, "Alex, I think I found my mate, and she is a human. With the same shock and worry on his face."
I looked at him surprised.
We were best friends for as long as I can remember.
This was a weird coincidence, as supernatural kinds don't get humans as mates that often, maybe once or twice in a hundred years.
This time, Grover and I found our mate, and that too, a human.
Grover wasn't able to find his mate either, so he and his wolf were anxious about the same thing I and Lex were anxious about.
I said to him, "Looks like I found my mate too, and she is also a human," then I pointed toward the most beautiful person on the earth.
He said the girl next to her was his mate.
We have super hearing, so we can listen to anything as long as we want. When I tried to listen, I heard her and the girl beside her talking about us. It made me happy that my mate was interested in me. Maybe the mate bond was already working on her. It won't work like it works on me, but I think she will feel it too.
I wanted to go to her and take her in my arms, but I couldn't do that, or she would think of me as a weirdo, so I had to take it slow.
But not that slow, because we won’t last long as we have already found her. And the intent to protect her is growing stronger by the second...
