CHAPTER-03

THE NIGHT OF THE PARTY,

EMILY'S POV,

I had a reminder from Lily early in the morning about the party, and she was really excited about it.

The party was scheduled to start at 7 PM.

When I was just about to close my clinic, a woman came with her kitten. The kitten needed an urgent checkup. After checking it, it was suffering from a slight cold. I gave it some medication and the kitten's owner took it back with her.

Because of it, I got a little late for the preparation for the party.

After they left, I flipped the closed sign of my clinic and went in to change my party attire.

I was wise enough to bring the clothes and make-up to the clinic, otherwise, I would be late and Lily would give me a long nagging!

I usually don't bother with make-up because I'm quite lazy, but since it's a special occasion, I thought I might as well make an effort, and make myself prettier than on my regular days.

I spent the whole day taking care of cats and dogs, so I took a quick shower, got ready with the dress, and did my makeup in record time.

The dress she got me is one of a kind. It’s really beautiful. Lily’s fashion sense is top-notch. She likes to dress up for herself and me (on countless occasions).

The dress she got me this time was gorgeous and suited me well, with a design that I really liked.

A black full-length one-shoulder dress with a slit on the right side. I paired it up with a pair of earrings, loose hair, black stilettos, and a black clutch.

Lily was really worried that we would be late, so she kept reminding me to be ready on time.

I assured her that I would be ready and asked her to come pick me up at 6:30.

Right on time, at 6:30, Lily was waiting outside my clinic wearing a navy blue knee-length cocktail dress that looked really nice on her.

She went outside of her car, looked at me, and said with a grin, “Someone’s in the mood to burn the world with her beauty.”

I made a small curtsy bow and said, “It is all thanks to your hard work to find me the perfect dress.”

Lily smiled happily, then I added with a wink, “You aren’t looking a bit bad. Trust me, if I were a man I would ask you out.”

We both laughed together and set off together for the party.

We arrived at the venue at 7:15 and bumped into Liam. Lily's brother, as we were entering the venue.

He is a good-looking, 6'ft man with a striking resemblance to Lily.

Lily's brother and I weren't close. We met more or less 5 times in a short amount of time. So I am still awkward around him even after being friends with Lily for so long.

Lily hugged her brother happily upon seeing him and I exchanged pleasantries with him, then we all went inside together.

It’s a big and lavish party, crowded with the city's known and unknown, big and small business persons and celebrities in attendance.

After entering, Liam went to greet people he knew or did business with, while Lily and I enjoyed the sight of all the glamorous people in the party hall.

We even got to see our favorite actors. Lily and I both agreed to ask for her brother's help to get a picture of them.

But Lily was right, there were a lot of handsome men and beautiful women at the party.

We grabbed our drinks and joined in on the festivities. We saw our acquaintances, so we went to say hi to them.

We were enjoying ourselves when we heard a commotion at the entrance.

Two handsome men entered the party and were surrounded by many business persons and celebrities. Just to greet them.

We looked at the two guys, and we saw two handsome and charming guys. But one of them stood out to me as particularly handsome.

I was looking at him constantly. My gaze was only following him, I might say stalking him.

And then, in a split second, he looked at me.

He kept looking at me without blinking. When our eyes met, it felt like we were all alone. It’s just me and him.

Lily’s interruption pulled me out of that and said, “The whole room is nothing compared to the guys who just came in.”

I couldn’t help but nod. And my gaze found that person again. This time he was looking at me too, just as I was looking at him a moment before.

When Lily noticed me looking at him and said, "This man is Alexander Wolfe, the president of Wolfe Corporation. No one can compete with him, at least in the business world. He is so mysterious that people don't even know if he is single or taken or any personal information about him except for his business ventures."

When Lily and I were talking, I could still feel a gaze on me, but this time when I looked around, I saw nothing.

The person Lily was talking about was nowhere to be seen…

After talking and laughing and trying to keep that mysterious man (as per Lily) out of my mind, Lily and I both started to get hungry, so we went to look for food.

There were plenty of dishes, or should I say cuisine. We had our fill, but again I felt like someone was watching. After eating, we had another drink and watched people dance.

We knew this would be a ballroom-themed party, so dance is also ballroom dance. Yet we didn't have to bring any partners, so we were just watching others enjoying our drinks.

After some time, the man who came in with Alexander Wolfe came to us and introduced himself.

His name is Grover, and he holds a position in the corporation.

After chatting with us but mostly with Lily, he asked us about our partners. Said, “Why are two beautiful ladies enjoying themselves all alone without dancing? Where are your partners?”

“Oh, we don’t have one. You can say me and Emily are each other’s partners.” With a smile. That made Grover smile too.

I could see that Lily was interested in this guy. She is interested in someone after ages. And from what I can tell, this guy, Grover, is also interested in Lily.

“Though I can’t ask both beautiful ladies to dance, I would like to ask Lily.” Saying that, he extended his hands towards her for a dance and Lily took it.

They both went to the dance floor. They hit it off really well, and I am happy for my bestie.

While they were dancing, I felt like someone watching me from behind. When I turned to see if I was imagining things or not, I saw him. Alexander Wolfe, watching me without blinking. Like if he blinks, I’ll disappear.

While keeping his eyes on me, he started to walk towards me without looking away from me. For some reason, I also couldn’t take my eyes off him. Like they are glued to him.

He reached me and introduced himself with nothing that I hadn’t heard from Lily. We talked for less than five minutes, and all we exchanged was our general information. I could see the look in his eyes while he was looking at me, talking to me, that I couldn’t decipher.

When the song changed, he asked me for a dance, all in a formal way, while the surrounding women gasped in, I guess surprise.

I wanted to decline, but also couldn’t. So I said yes, and went to the dance floor. While dancing, I could feel countless eyes on us or, more likely, me. It made me quite uncomfortable.

As if feeling my unease, he pulled me closer than before, then bent towards my ears, and said in his heavy voice, “All attention is on me. Don’t think about others right now.”

I became so stunned that I couldn’t utter a word, but I could feel blood rushing to my face. I couldn’t feel it when the song changed and our dancing came to an end. The whole time, the whole 10–15 minutes with him felt like something out of a fairy tale.

The connection I felt towards him or the way I enjoyed his company, I don’t think I have ever liked spending time with Max.

Alexander Wolfe is a 6'4" man with very pretty green eyes and, from what I can see, a well-built physique under the suit. Overall, a really attractive man. The type of man you can only find in fiction. And I could feel my attraction towards him.

While spending time with him and dancing, I couldn’t guess when it was already 11.

After saying bye to him, I went to look for Lily. And what do I see? I see Lily all over Grover, maybe slightly drunk.

But I don’t see him having trouble handling a drunk Lily. So, with a smile, I walked towards them, and behind me, Alexander also joined us.

When I talked about us leaving, Grover and Alexander proposed dropping us. Before I could say yes or no, Liam came and said his hellos to both Grover and Alexander.

Seeing Lily drunk, he said he would be dropping us off.

Then we said goodbye, and Liam dropped us at my home. Lily was not in a condition to stay alone, and her family was out of town, and he would be heading to the office.

After getting inside my house and settling Lily in the guest room, I freshened up and went to bed. But I couldn’t keep my thoughts away from my new acquaintance, Alexander Wolfe…
