CHAPTER-06

EMILY'S POV, After coming back from the event, I was exhausted. I quickly freshened up and went to bed and lay down. But for some reason, I couldn’t sleep. Whenever I closed my eyes, I saw the beautiful green eyes looking at me. The handsome face was all I could think about. I couldn't keep Alexander Wolfe out of my mind. Will we ever meet again? And what was the tingly sensation I felt? I thought to myself before drifting off to sleep. THE NEXT DAY, I woke up because of the loud noises coming from outside my apartment. I got up with sleepy eyes and opened my door to see someone was moving in next door. But wait, wasn’t someone already living there? When did they move out? I thought to myself. I am not the type of person to pry into my neighbor's life. However, the elderly couple living there were nice to me, and they had a cute calico cat that I occasionally played with. Maybe they moved closer to their son. I heard from them that their son lives in a different state. And they might be planning to move closer to him. They even tried to fix a blind date for me with their son. But at that time, I was dating that jerk. So I declined. Though they were sad, we quickly moved on. And cut to now, they moved out. And didn’t even inform me. I feel a bit sad, but as long as they are happy. I looked at my phone, and it was already10 in the morning. No wonder I felt hungry. I freshened up and made myself a strong coffee, which I had with two pieces of bread and two poached eggs. If I want to go through the day till lunch. Coffee is a must-have for me. I am not in a hurry to head to the clinic because I had given my clinic assistant half a day off today last day as a reward for closing the clinic last night. And mostly, I knew how tired I would be today after last night’s party. As my clinic was new, I didn't have any animal patients to keep an eye on. So it was okay for me and my assistant to take half the day off. After eating, I got ready and went out to buy some groceries for the evening. It’s the time of the week to shop for some. When I stepped out of my apartment, I saw that much of the latest model furniture was being moved in. “Whoever is moving in definitely has taste.” I thought to myself. And the fact that most of the furniture is also in my shopping cart. I planned to buy them bit by bit after opening my clinic. Now I am really curious about the person moving in who shares my taste. While thinking, I walked to the elevator and went straight to the underground parking lot. Where stands my pretty white car. Though it was a second-hand purchase, it is still dear to me. I bought it when I turned 20 and got my driving license. My mom helped me with some of the money. Then I finally became an owner of a car. When I was walking to my car, I heard the guards talking. They said to each other, “In a matter of one night. Our boss changed. The old owner sold this whole building.” The other guard said, “Also, the person who bought this has already moved in.” Then it clicked, maybe it was the person who was moving next door. Because I don’t see any other person moving in or out. But then, why am I so curious!? Anyone can buy anything as long as he has money... Then I went on my way. Went to buy groceries for tonight, dropped them off at home, then went to the clinic. The day went by as usual… I returned home at my regular time, parked my car in my spot and went on my way to the elevator. And there I ran into that guy. That super handsome guy I met at the party, Alexander Wolfe. He was also waiting for the elevator, I presume. In an all-gray three-piece suit with a white shirt and gray tie. Most probably he came back from work too. But wait… why is he here? I don’t think I ever heard any big shot like him staying in this building. He saw me too, the moment I saw him. And somehow we both didn’t break our silence and just kept looking in each other’s eyes. And I could feel my cheeks becoming red from his intense stare. Then the ‘ting’ sound of the elevator opening came and we both looked away from each other and went inside it. Then he pressed his floor number. When I went to press mine, I saw he had already pressed the button for my floor. Is he the new neighbor who moved in today and might as well be the new owner of the building? What a coincidence!! Then I heard a light cough coming beside me, and looked at the source of it. There he is, giving me a smile with one hand in his pocket, another holding a phone. “Happy to meet you again, Emily,” he said. I returned his smile as much as I could and hid my red cheeks as much as I could and said, “Happy to meet you again too Mr. Wolfe.” “Do you live in this building, Emily? I just moved here today,” he said. “Yes, Mr. Wolfe, I moved here a few months ago,” I replied. “Which floor do you live on? You didn’t put any floor in the keypad,” he asked. “I guess we live on the same floor, Mr. Wolfe,” I replied with a slight smile. “So we are neighbors? I am delighted to have you as my neighbor,” he replied. “Yup, me too, Mr. Wolfe,” I said. “Now that we are neighbors, why don’t you call me Alexander, or even Alex will do.” He said. “Okay, Alex,” I said. And somehow, there was a delightful expression on his face. Like he couldn’t hide his big smile, the smile that could ruin his dangerous businessman persona. But why is he so happy about me calling his name!! "Mr. Wolfe, why did you move here, if you don't mind my asking? I am just curious," I asked. “This place is near my office, and it’s easy to commute from here. It’ll save time, and I can sleep for maybe half an hour more,” Alex replied. I thought he would be like those CEOs I read about in my novels: cold, aloof, come near me and die type. But he is nothing like that. He is just like, umm… a regular guy. Again, reality and fiction are supposed to be different. So I should remember that too. As we reached our floor and I was about to enter my apartment, he called me from behind and said, “Emily, tomorrow I’m hosting a small housewarming party. I hope you can come. It won’t be anything extravagant—just a few friends and plenty of food.” I was surprised by the sudden invitation, but I agreed. Who am I to say no to free food with a handsome person!! Then we said goodbye and went to our apartments. I don't know why I felt excited to know Alexander Wolfe was next to my apartment. "Am I that attracted to that man, the man I saw only a day ago and shared just one dance with? That can't be!" I thought to myself. I was so nervous in his presence. I have never even felt that, even when I was with my shitty ex, and he was the one for me… Why am I feeling like this about this man!!! After all that thinking, I got too tired to make myself something good. So I just made myself some Korean ramen. Enjoyed it with a Chinese historical drama. Then I went to sleep with a happy and somewhat confused mind about Alex and a full tummy…
