The warmth coming from the fire pit the guys had improvised in the space between the house and the barn created a strong contrast to the biting cold in the breeze that made Gabriel’s skin prickle and shudder. It was still only eight at night, but the sun was long gone and the moon was high up in the sky, bathing everything in ghostly light except for where the hues of red and orange from the flames touched.
