Chapter 1
Hell’s Last Stop High Security Prison!
There was nothing that equaled the taste of freedom, especially after spending five torturous years in Hell’s Last Stop Prison.
Everyone knew it was a place for the worst criminals. No one emerged from its gates alive. Everyone sent there were sent to die. But Wilheim was different.
He was sent there for a trial. But he didn’t know that.
The iron gate slowly opened, causing a rusty sound that hurt eardrums.
Slapping two hands over his ears, Wilheim waited for his blink future. As soon as he stepped foot outside, the sunlight blinded his vision and caused him to blink in agony. The interior of the prison was a dim light imposing structure. The prison was located on a jagged, desolate island surrounded by dangerous waters and storms.
Outside the ironclad fortress prison, armored vehicles were everywhere, waiting for a word to launch assault. Six black helicopters hovered above Wilheim’s head.
He shielded his eyes with a shaky hand, taking a long stare at the sight before him. He wasn’t allowed to be mad. Nevertheless, this was the closest emotion he felt at the moment.
Behind him followed a score of armored men. In front of him, another group.
Wilheim was supposed to be released a day earlier but because of the long procedures he had to follow, he had to bear with the delay.
A middle-aged man with a stern face came out of one of the cars. He walked towards Wilheim. He hid a soft smile as his pupils dilated at the changed appearance of the young man.
Wilheim looked older.
The middle-aged man shook his head slightly, washed away his hesitation and saluted the newly released man.
The least he could do was show respect.
Wilheim Roberts, who was in a lazy posture, immediately straightened as he realized who was in front of him. He got rid of his mocking expression and returned the standard salute.
The middle-aged man patted Wilheim’s shoulder, inserting his fatherly nature. He couldn’t help but feel the remorse at the consequences of what happened. It was supposed to be different.
Wilheim was supposed to emerge a hero out of it. Instead, he became a criminal, the worst murderer sent to the worst prison in the world.
“Wilheim!” started the man. “My incompetence has burdened you, son. You’ve suffered so much during these years.”
This man was the founder of the Eclipse Division Special forces. It was an elite secret unit tasked with solving the most unnatural phenomenon.
Only Wilheim had the qualifications and the status to bring this man to the place no one wanted to step foot into.
Wilheim almost chuckled as he remembered their motto.
“In the shadow of the unknown, we rise.”
He could almost argue that it was what happened to him.
“I’ve been doing well, Sir,” a smirk tugged at the corner of Wilheim’s mouth. “I don’t blame you for what happened. I should thank you instead. If it weren’t for you, I’d be food for the sharks.”
Wilheim bowed his head genuinely.
“I’m grateful for bringing me back and saving my life.”
Only the two of them knew what really happened. As for the story that was thrown to the public, it was completely different. So close to the truth, yet cruel to the ears.
Six years ago, Wilheim was the captain of the Eclipse Division Special forces. The man before him was their leader and he was in charge of strategies and giving out orders.
One day, Wilheim received the order to move to a special location and investigate the whereabouts of a suspicious laboratory. It was an SSS level top-secret mission.
However, under unfortunate circumstances, the mission wasn’t a secret anymore, which endangered the entire force. It led to the death of more than thirty members of the group.
For Wilheim, they weren’t just members. They were his brothers no blood gave him. He watched them being massacred in front of him and right when all thought was lost, he rose from the ashes like a phoenix.
A g*n was over his head when his vision blackened with negative emotions. In rage, Wilheim wielded his guns and threw himself into the fray, fighting multiple foes at once.
The enemies thought they won but their laugh of triumph was erased as they had to fight Wilheim. However, Wilheim was stronger than them and managed to win. But some of them managed to slip out of his reach for a moment.
Fifteen enemies managed to run over the borders. Wilheim didn’t hesitate. When he lost his sanity watching his comrades slaughtered, chasing them was the least he could do.
Just as he was about to end the last two, the foreign army arrived and locked on him.
Everyone wanted to sentence him to death but his leader’s interference earned him a stay in prison.
The leader’s deep voice brought Wilheim back to the present.
“Your position is still available. You’ll rejoin service once you rest.”
The middle-aged man knew that without Wilheim the Eclipse Division would be at loss. He was the most talented one with his group. After what happened, he was the only one worth investing on. Every potential just died unfairly.
Swallowing a bitter bile, Wilheim forced a smile.
“With all due respect, Sir, I would like to live a normal life, a peaceful one. Eclipse is an outstanding division but this is as far as I get. I believe there’s someone better than me out there.”
The man sighed helplessly.
“This isn’t what I meant. I know what happened is hard. That’s why we thought hard, your two masters thought it would be best for you to become one of our shadow people. You won’t fight until it’s necessary. You’ll be one of our hidden cards.”
Wilheim thought hard about it. He never knew there were shadow people that followed Eclipse.
“I’ve never heard of shadow people.”
“I know. They are people like you, who want to live a normal life. However, you know very well that we can’t let go of you, not when you hold enough abilities to surpass normal human beings. Your success is at once a blessing and a curse.”
“So if I understand right, you sealed my abilities so I can live a normal life but you don’t want me to live a normal life.”
“No, you will. You’ll be on standby. Only summoned when necessary.”
Wilheim found it logical and better than joining back Eclipse. He nodded in satisfaction.
“You should visit your two masters. They miss you…”
Wilheim had two masters; one taught him medical arts, the other martial arts. Their status was quite high. They were the first two people to emerge as masters in their fields with the new upcoming era. His first master was a national medical saint known for his ability to cure any disease. The second one was one of the strongest grandmasters.
Everyone wanted to be their disciples. Wilheim managed to attract both their eyes, which was why a lot was jealous of him.
After falling into deep thoughts for a moment, Wilheim decided it wasn’t the perfect moment to visit them. He knew what they would say about his decision to live a normal life.
“I will visit my masters when the time is right. As for now, I have somewhere else to be.”
The middle-aged man stared sadly at Wilheim. He understood that losing his friends was devastating for him and it would take more than five years to recover from it.
So he handed him an envelope sealed with a special seal. No one can open it unless it’s Wilheim.
“I understand. If you don’t want to visit your masters now. At least, please visit this senior who is suffering from a peculiar disease.”
“What kind?”
“You’ll know once you see him. That’s a letter to introduce you. The senior is a longtime friend and he’ll be happy to see you.”
Wilheim took the envelope and boarded one of the cars.
The man stared at him for a moment before joining him.
A phone started ringing in the man’s pocket. He took it out and handed it to Wilheim.
“That’s for you!”
