The Only Princess of Ember World

CHAPTER 2

16 years later, Princess Erythea grew up beautifully. She really looks like her late grandmother Queen Thea but their attitude are different from each other. Late Queen Thea is a modest and obedient child while Princess Erythea is mischievous and stubborn.

“Princess, you need to study your lessons for today.” Guardian Chase is also the teacher of Princess Erythea. She is not allowed to go outside the palace because her face must not expose to everyone as a tradition. She is also not allowed to go to school that’s why Guardian Chase is her teacher.

“Chase, I told you already. I don’t want to study.”

“How many times do I need to say that you must call me Guardian Chase?” When Princess Erythea learned to speak, she never address her guardian with its proper name, instead she used to call him Chase.

“And how many times do I need to tell you that call me Ery, not princess.” Of all people on the palace, his guardian is the only person that talks to her like this. All of the servants and guards are afraid to chat with her. This is the main reason why she wants to address her in her name by her guardian. She is getting tired for being a princess that is locked inside the palace.

“You know that you’re my princess so I need to call you Princess Erythea.” He is quite fond of the humbleness of his princess. He knows that she hates calling her princess. And every time he call her princess, she always become pissed off.

“Exactly, I am your princess so you need to obey my command. Am I right?” Princess Erythea looked madly at her guardian. She even raised her eyebrows and put her hands in her waist.

“Princess, you’re trying to mislead me, aren’t you?”

“No, I’m not.”

“Then finish your lesson today.” Guardian Chase gave the papers to Princess Erythea. Princess Erythea took a deep sigh before answering her papers. She’s tired of her life being a princess locked inside the palace. She wants to go out. She wants to know what the real Ember world is. She wants to go to school and she wants to have friends. Being the only princess in their world is really hard. The tradition they have really sucks. She needs to spend two more years before her coronation and public appearance. She can’t wait anymore. She wants to go outside as soon as possible.

“Okay Chase.” She smiled widely at her guardian.

“It’s Guardian Chase.”

“Chase.”

“Guardian Chase.”

“Chase! Chase! Chase!”

“Princess Erythea, can you act on your age please? You are already 16 years old. You’re not a child anymore.” Princess Erythea knew that her guardian was already pissed off.

“I wish I’m still a child that all of the attention of my parents were on me.” She missed her parents so much. When she turned 14 years old, her parents become busy on their kingdom. They will go early before she wakes up and went home when she’s sleeping already. For the past two years, her guardian is the only one who stays by her side.

She saw her parents going out of the palace. She immediately run towards her parents. Guardian Chase is calling her but she ignored it.

“Mother, father!” Princess Erythea shouted so that her parents can hear her. All of the servants stopped working and bow their heads when the princess passed by. Her parents turned their gaze to the running princess.

“Princess Erythea!” King Oliver shouted. Princess Erythea stopped running and she started to tremble. Queen Louise try to calm her husband then she quickly went to her daughter.

“Princess Erythea, you know that you are not allowed run or shout. Remember, a princess is modest.”

“I just want to talk to you.”

“What is it my princess?”

“Can I go with you?”

“Princess Erythea, you know that it is not allowed. What if the people outside the palace saw your face?”

“But mother, I missed you and I want to go out of the palace.”

“Princess Erythea, let’s go back.” Guardian Chase tried to stop the princess from saying any thing. But King Oliver approach his daughter.

“Princess, you can’t go outside until you reach your 18th birthday. You can’t go with us and you will stay here in the palace. Do we need to repeat it yearly?”

“I’m sorry father.” Princess Erythea bowed her head. King Oliver smiled and hugged her daughter. He kissed her in the forehead.

“I know it is difficult for you but we need to follow our tradition. You are a smart girl and I know you understand it. Right our princess?”

“Yes father.”

“Okay sweetie, we need to go. Go back to your class.” Princess Erythea turned her back and go back to her room. She doesn’t want to see her parents walk out of the main door of the palace. Guardian Chase immediately followed her to the room.

“Princess, are you okay?”

“Whether I say yes or no, nothing will change right? I will still be locked in this place.” Princess Erythea took a deep breath and lay down on her bed. She has everything, big and soft bed, large room, mini library, walk in closet, servants, guardian and royal life but she feels incomplete.

“You’re right. So better finish your papers then we will train your ability.”

“Wait. It’s not on my schedule, the training.”

“Yes I know, but I will train you today.” Guardian Chase knew that the training will make his princess happy. The training is the only way the princess can relieved from sadness and loneliness.

“Thank you Chase.” Because of excitement, Princess Erythea quickly finished her papers. Guardian Chase knew that the princess is very smart. He checked the papers and all of it was correct. If she can go to school, she probably on top of the class.

“Let’s go.”

The two of them went on the training ground. Being the princess of Ignis Kingdom, Princess Erythea needs to train her ability of controlling the element of fire. She is not allowed to learn on how to defend herself using her fire and physical combat. She just need to control her fire so that she cannot hurt others. But she wants more. She wants to learn how to fight. She don’t want to rely on her guardian for her safety.

“Chase, fight me.” She dared to challenge his guardian because she secretly train herself of physical combat. Every night, when everybody thinks that she is sleeping, she secretly train her body in her room.

“Princess.”

“And if I beat you, you will let me went outside of the palace. If you won, I will behave and never disobey you.” The deal was sound good for Guardian Chase. He is already tired of being disobedient of his princess. Maybe this is the perfect chance for him. He can beat the princess easily because she doesn’t know anything on physical combat.

“Okay deal.” The princess smirk. She knows that she can win in this battle because she is well prepared for this.

Princess Erythea summons a fire in her right hand while Guardian Chase sat on the grass and waited the princess to attack him. The princess easily made a bow and arrow with her fire. Guardian Chase was very surprised of what he witnessed.

“How did you do that?” Instead of answering, Princess Erythea started to shoot arrows towards her guardian. Guardian Chase, on the other hand, still stunned of what she can do but still managed to dodge the attacks of the princess. Confusions was written in his face. He never taught the princess on how to make a weapon out of fire. It is not allowed because she is a princess.

“Surprised?” Princess Erythea diffused her bow and arrow and made another weapon, a sword. Guardian Chase also released his sword and dodge the attack of the princess. He is even more surprised because the princess knows swordsmanship. She is also strong that Guardian Chase need to step backward to dodge the attack. He suddenly dropped his sword and Princess Erythea took the chance to point her sword to her guardian.

“I won!” She jumped out of joy she feels right now. She beat her guardian which means she can go outside of the palace.

“Tell me princess, who taught you of that?”

“I learned all by myself.”

“You know it is not allowed. How can you disobey the rules?”

“What rule? The rule that says I will depend my life with you? That I will grow up weak and can’t even defend myself?”

“They will punish you if they find out this Princess Erythea.”

“So what? You will tell them? Chase, you are the only one who knows what I am capable of. So if they will know about this, you are the only one I can blame.”

“You know what, I just wish your grandmother didn’t die that day. I am so tired guarding you. If I have a choice, I might leave you right away. You are not deserving to call a princess.”

After saying all those hurtful words, Guardian Chase left his princess on the training ground. Princess Erythea started to cry because she is in deep pain. The only person she used to have is also tired of her. Just like her parents, she feels that her guardian left her also.
