"We don't have much time," Jared replied before Macey could ask for waffles. "It's a matter of life and death." Anton nodded somberly and led them into the house, asking them to wait in an opulently decorated sitting room. Macey sat next to Jared. "Why did you split up with James?" she whispered so the others couldn't hear. She didn't want to embarrass Jared in front of them. The incubus grimaced. "He wanted me to marry him. I didn't want to, I wanted to keep it casual between us. I always knew that he wasn't someone I wanted to stay with for the rest of my life, but had stuck with him for convenience's sake.
