Chapter Five The bird was surprisingly big. Macey had expected something the size of a dove, maybe a large parrot, but the caladrius was as big as a well-fed rooster. Its feathers were so bright that it almost seemed as if light streamed off them. Its beak was pure silver, as were its eyes. It was a beautiful creature and Macey had to fight the impulse to run to it and stroke its plumage. James stretched out an arm and the caladrius landed on it. The bird had to be heavy, but the incubus king didn't seem to have any trouble holding him. "Meet Emperor," he said while the bird lovingly rubbed its cheek against the man's shoulder. "You won't need to take him with you. He's the strongest of his kind, which means a single feather will be enough." "Our fellow Warden is very sick," Macey said
