As the night wore on, Emily and Alex slept fitfully, unaware of the danger that lurked outside. But just as they were starting to drift off into a deep sleep, they were jolted awake by the sound of breaking glass.
Alex's eyes snapped open, and he sat up with a start. "What was that?" Emily whispered, her voice trembling.
Alex didn't answer. Instead, he grabbed her hand and pulled her out of bed. "We have to get out of here," he whispered, his eyes scanning the room.
As they made their way to the door, Emily could hear the sound of footsteps outside. Heavy, deliberate footsteps, as if someone was trying to make their presence known.
Alex's face was set in a determined expression. "My family," he said, his voice low. "They've found us."
Without hesitation, Alex pulled Emily out of the cabin and into the darkness. They sprinted through the woods, the trees looming above them like sentinels.
As they ran, Emily could hear the sound of their pursuers getting closer and closer. She knew they had to keep moving if they wanted to stay alive.
But just when they thought they'd lost their pursuers, Emily tripped on a root and fell. Alex tried to help her up, but it was too late. They were surrounded.
"Well, well, well," a voice sneered. "Look what we have here."
Emily looked up to see Alex's family standing over them, their faces twisted with malice. "You're not going to get away from us that easily," one of them spat.
Alex stood up, his eyes flashing with anger. "Leave us alone," he growled.
But Alex's family just laughed. "Or what?" one of them taunted. "You'll call the cops? You're in this too deep, Alex. You're going to have to face the consequences."
As Emily watched, she saw the fear in Alex's eyes. He knew they were in grave danger, and she knew she had to think fast if they were going to get out of this alive.
