Chapter 6: An Unsure Pursuit

We walked until we reached our destination. It was a little bit near in our room so there are no much needed energy to use.
"Hey, are you sure that there are no patrolling guards here?"
I asked in fear of getting caught. I'm sure there's a punishment if we ever been seen around here..
"Yeah. I'm sure about it. At this night time, some of them are sleeping while the others are guarding the outside."
Rodner explained while we slowly walked our way to the top of the school. We opened the door leading inside and darkness appeared right before us.
"Let's use our phone's flashlight."
Rodner immediately said while he brought out his phone. I did the same and opened the flashlight.
The place was dark but the lights from our phone is enough to see where we are going. The staircase is a little bit steep but I could manage with it. I looked up and saw the spiral stairs which leads to the top part of this place.
As we reached the top, I checked what's happening outside. Little by little I saw the monsters scattered around. They are slowly walking and it seems like they are lacking of energy. Maybe because there's no human around...
"Look at that area." Rodner said while pointing his hands to a certain place.
The zombies on that part of the city is eating the remains of the mutant zombie that attacked us earlier. Those zombies that are eating would then slowly grew into something a little bigger than the usual as their skin turns red.
"What are those..."
"The zombies are evolving. I think that's what they are doing..."
I just stared in shock from what those things are doing. I can't believe it. How would the guards survive the place outside the next day... When will this end!
"Uh hey?"
"What the."
"Who are you?"
We slowly turned around and flashed the lights to the person. It was Rias.
"What are you doing?"
"So it was you huh."
Rodner let out a grin. Maybe it's because he figured out that someone was already following us earlier.
"We're just checking the situation outside."
I explained to avoid confusion. She must have thought that we're escaping or something.
"So... What did you see?"
"Evolving zombies..."
"Ah... I guess the suffering never stops."
"Yeah..."
Me and Rodner replied at the same time. How long do we suffer? Just what caused for these things to happen?
"So how about this. Since the zombies are evolving, I heard one time in the news that an army in the Philippines is developing a modern weapon. I knew where the location is, but I need people to help me. Let's go there tomorrow morning."
Rias explained briefly. If this weapon is real, then I'm sure someone had already got their hands to it.
"Are you sure about your plan?"
I asked to make things clear. Rias must have already thought that someone had the "gun" she's talking about, but maybe she just wanted to make sure of it.
"Would you go or not?"
"I guess I'm in."
"I won't join you guys."
Rodner said looking down. He doesn't want to join us for a reason... It could be the same as mine earlier. Maybe I should ask Rodner about it.
"Why not?"
"Rias, you're not sure if the gun was there right? This is a gamble isn't?"
Rias smiled. It seems like Rodner seen through Rias's action. Just how smart are the people around me?
"That's fine. I'll just invite Ahllen."
Rias replied. She doesn't exactly answered Rodner's words, but I'm sure that that was really Rias's action.
We got back to our rooms. We separated ways with Rias as she's designated to another room. All of a sudden, Rodner stopped again in walking. He then faced me and started talking.
"Be careful tomorrow. And also, expect the unexpected."
I stared at him for a while. It wasn't that long when we went inside our room and slept. Tomorrow will be an exhausting day. I better rest.
As I closed my eyes, a light took all up the darkness that I was supposed to be seeing. It was weird. What is happening?
"What... Are you?"
I asked in curiosity. Is this a dream? Who is this? What was I doing earlier? Just... What is happening?
"Who knows?"
"Uh. What is this? Where am I?"
It didn't replied. It seems like the light is vanishing little by little. I tried to chase on where it was disappearing but, to no avail.
I woke up feeling tired. It must be because of the running in my dream. I don't know.
"Let's go." Someone said from my back.
I looked back and it was Rica. She was with Ahllen. I knew what I had to do. I prepared my stuffs and approached the two of them.
"I already asked permission from the principal so we could now go."
Rias explained while we went downstairs and walked through the school grounds. We made our way to the exit gate and waited for a while for the guards to open it. The atmosphere of the dead world got into me. It was scary. Trees that fell apart, car crashed into a building, and dead bodies scattered on the ground.
"First time?"
Rias looked at me. It's not actually the first time since the chaos that happened in the school grounds already got into me. But, the outside world has far more cruel than what happened inside.
"I just can't believe this things."
"The place is still kilometers away. Let's search for a car."
Rias explained. We started checking for working cars. Ahllen seems like to know about hijacking a car which makes it easier for us in this quest.
Time passed and each vehicles we passed are not functioning. It looks like we're going to walk for many hours. I'm just hoping for a miracle to happen around here.
"Let's rest here for a bit." Rias said.
We sat down and took a rest. There would be more walking later. I wonder if the weapon we're searching for is there...
"Hey. Do you thi-"
Something exploded from behind.
"Argh!"
