I felt a pair of strong arms pick me up and carried me away. Since then, I don't know how long it has been. It could have been minutes, hours or even days since I lost consciousness. All I remember is that we got chased down, Lucas got ripped apart and I nearly got squished to death. But who saved me? I started slowly regaining my consciousness, slowly opening my eyes and looking around. I found myself in a room, laying a comfortable bed with a candle on the nightstand, lighting up the room. I slowly sat up, gasping at the sharp pain on my side. "You are awake." I heard a voice come from the door. I looked up, seeing Chris stand there with a plate and a glass of water. "Chris..." I said in a low tone, feeling tears prick my eyes as I remembered everything that happened. "Hey, hey, calm down, you are safe," Chris said as he hurried to me, placing the plate with some food and the glass of water on the nightstand. He placed his hand on my cheek. I closed my eyes, resting into his hand, enjoying every moment "How do you feel...?" Chris's voice brought me back to reality. "I...I had better times" I answered him, giving him a soft smile as he let out a low chuckle. "How did... you find...us? How did you know where we were?" I asked Chris. "Lucas used the radio before....he got ripped apart. Leon and I started running and got separated on our way here, this motherfucker sent a truck flying towards us, blocking Leon on the other side. He is alive and luckily in one piece. After that, I started running and found Lucas. After that, I heard you scream in pain so I went to save you and now we are in a hotel room, well a suite, on the first floor." Chris answered me, placing his hand on mine. "I..." my voice cracked. "I couldn't save Lucas...I left him there to die." as I finished my sentence, tears started running down my cheeks as I remembered his corpse.
"There was nothing you could do. If he didn't offer himself, you all would die. And that would be a shame." Chris answered me, his voice was soft and caring. I looked at him as I kept sobbing. "Now, Don't cry, everything will be fine. Trust me, I will get you out of here." Chris's voice was low. His eyes looked deep into mine. I got lost into them. His hand on mine got tighter and tighter as we brought our faces slowly closer. We only met a few hours ago and we already had a connection building up, or at least a deep desire for each other. "C-Chris..." I said right before our lips met in a deep kiss, taking my breath away. We sat there for a while, enjoying the moment. Chris wrapped his arms around my waist, gently pulling us closer to each other. I placed my hand behind his neck, letting out a low moan. Slowly, Chris pulled away from my lips, resting his forehead on mine. "I'm...sorry. This shouldn't have happened." Chris whispered. "N-No, it's alright," I answered, feeling embarrassed. "No, this really shouldn't have happened. I can't make a close connection with anyone, feelings will just get in the way." Chris said, his voice is low and sounded hurt. "If I catch feelings for you and you get bitten...I won't be able to kill you. And I know you wouldn't be able to do the same. Both of us should stay away from each other. But f**k, I just can't do it." Chris said, looking into my eyes while stroking my cheek. "Chris..." I let out, feeling sadness rush through me. "It's for the best, trust me. I will just hurt you." Chris said as he let go of me. "No, I understand and it is alright," I said, giving Chris a sad smile. "Now, eat something, there are a lot of supplies here so if we get stuck here for a longer time, we will still have a lot of food supplies," Chris said as he placed the plate next to me. I nodded and started eating the food. It was a long time since I ate normal food.
As I was eating the food, Chris was looking out of the window. I could see that something was happening outside. "What's wrong Chris?" I asked him before I took the last bite of the toast. "We will have one hell of an escape. The city is crawling with them." Chris answered me in a serious tone. "And you are hurt, making you weaker." Chris continued as looked at me. "I will be fine, it's not that bad, I feel better after all," I assured Chris. "Alright then, three more minutes and we are going out. We need to find Leon." Chris answered me, not even looking at me. I slowly sat up, trying to see if my ribcage hurt, and it did hurt but less than before. "I'm ready," I said to Chris. He turned around, nodded to me and started walking out of the room. "Hurry up then." I could hear his voice in the main room. "Yea, yea coming." I rolled my eyes. Is he going to act all try hard to get or is he hurt because of his past relationships? Or is it because he lives a dangerous life, and without even wanting it, he puts people he cares about in danger?
I started walking out of the room, meeting Chris's gaze, which he quickly averted. I felt a sharp pain run through my chest. Why the hell does it hurt, I can't catch feelings for him, not now, not ever. "Reload your gun, we are making a run for it..." Chris's voice was low, almost like a whisper. I nodded as I reloaded my gun, preparing it quickly and mentally preparing myself to shoot anything that wants to harm me. Chris looked at me. "Back me up, I will look left and you right. Alright?" Chris whispered. I looked at him, nodding. Chris slowly opened the door, quickly stepping into the hall pointing his gun and flashlight to the left side. I quickly stepped out into the hall, looking to my right side. "Clear," I said. "Clear too," Chris answered. "Come on now, let's get going," Chris said as he started walking down the hallway. I followed him in silence. Evelyn...We need to go back to the Police Station, send out an emergency warning. So, we are going there, then we are going to find Leon and find your sister. Then....we are out of this hell hole." Chris told me. "Sounds good to me..." I answered. I still need to find my sister and I needed Chris to help me. We promised that we would help each other out, no matter what. I clenched my teeth as I fought through my tears. I'm not going to cry, I have to be strong for mine, Chris's and my sister's sake. "Evelyn? You alright?" Chris's voice brought me back. "Y-Yea I'm fine," I answered, shaking off the sadness. I didn't want to look weak in front of him. Chris let out a sigh and kept walking through the hotel. I know he didn't buy it, but I'm glad he didn't just keep bugging me about it.
We came out of the reception, slowly going towards the entrance of the hotel. We heard groaning from behind us. I quickly turned around, just to see a hoard of zombies coming towards us. "E-em Chris? We have a big problem." I stuttered as I gently nudged my elbow onto his, getting his attention. "Yes, we have another problem outside, coming for us." Chris's voice was serious. "Back me up, Evelyn! I will take care of what outside, you will try to kill them all inside!" Chris shouted out as he fired away, shooting the undead. I gathered up my courage and started shooting them all. One by one, they fell to the ground, hopefully, dead for good. I turned around to look for Chris. He was outside, fighting them off, but they just kept coming back. I quickly reloaded my gun and went outside, helping Chris out as much as I could. "Evelyn!!! We run now!!!" Chris shouted as he grabbed my hand and started running as fast as we could, away from the place. We ran and ran, not even daring to look back. Chris started slowing down his speed, coming to a stop next to a house. "Let's get in here." he declared as he started walking towards the door. I was breathing heavily, feeling my legs shake violently, yet I quickly followed him inside. "Anybody here!?" Chris shouted out inside the house, but no answer came. "We will stay here until daylight. They are slower during sunlight." Chris told me, sitting down on the couch still breathing heavily. "Sit down, you need rest..." Chris said, his voice is soft, almost making me melt. I nodded and plopped myself on the couch next to him, leaning back as I tried catching my breath. We sat there in silence until we caught our breaths. Chris stood up. "I'm going to check if there is anyone or anything here. Stay here and keep your gun out just in case." his voice was deep and serious. "Alright...Be careful," I answered Chris, preparing my handgun. As Chris left, I started to get a bad feeling about this. I felt that something or someone was watching me. "Hello? Is anybody there?" I called out, slowly standing up from the couch. My legs were shaking after the intense workout they had a few minutes ago.
I picked up my flashlight and pointed towards another door, leading to god knows where. I slowly came closer to the door, my heartbeat got faster and faster. I grabbed the doorknob, slowly turning it and opening the door, pointing my flashlight into the room. It was a kitchen. "Anybody here?" I called out once more. "M-Mommy?" A little girls voice answered me. The girl came out of the shadows, looking towards me. "H-Have you seen my m-mommy?" The little girl asked me politely. "No, I have unfortunately not seen her. How long have you been here?" I said as I lowered myself down to her level. "I-I don't know...how long I've been here. Mommy said that we would play hide and seek, and then the door broke down and mommy got bitten and she ran out, locking me inside this house. Is my mommy alright?" the little girl started to tear up. "Hey, sweetie, everything will be alright. Your mommy won't be coming back, unfortunately, but we will take you to safety. You gotta be strong now, ok?" I tried cheering her up. "What's your name by the way?" I asked her, smiling at her. "M-My name is Camille, And yours miss?" She answered me politely. "My name is Evelyn, but you can call me Evie," I told her, smiling softly. "Evelyn Kordel r-right?" Camille asked me, her eyes lighting up. "H-How do you know my last name?" I asked confusedly. "Y-You are Jenny's sister!?" She exclaimed. "You have seen her?" I asked her hopefully. "Well, she is my brother's girlfriend, Mike Sherman. He was here a few minutes ago, he was in a hurry. Is my brother alright?" Camille asked me. A flashback came to my mind, as he left me there to die, not even daring to help me out. "Well, he left me to die, so at the moment I don't care if he is ok or not," I said coldly. "N-No, it is ok. But can I tell you something that I heard? From Mike?" Camille asked me. "Yes, you can. What is it?" I smiled at her. "He was here, you know, and he was talking to another girl, it wasn't Jenny's voice, but they did some stuff, I don't what, and then he said that he would take care of the survivors and k-kill Jenny so they could be together. The woman said that he had to kill everyone who knows the location to the Gamma Corporation." She told me, shivering in fear. "He plans to kill every survivor there is, including Jenny so he could go off with another woman? Son of a bitch..." I whispered. "Chris!" I shouted out. I could hear him sprint up the stairs towards me. "Evelyn, What happened?!" He quickly came to my side, ready to fight. He lowered his gun as he saw Camille. "A survivor?" Chris asked. "Yes, her name is Camille, Mike's younger sister. Looks to me that Mike is in big trouble when I see him." I turned to Chris, crossing my arms across my chest as I told him everything I was told.
"Well, we now know that our fight down to the Gamma Corporation is going to be tough if Mike is together with a mercenary or someone who works with the mutated viruses. There is no way we will be able to recover the antidote and a sample of the virus...."Chris sat down on the couch, rubbing his beard as he was talking. I could see he was pissed and stressed about this. So badly I wanted to hug him, give him hope, but I knew that he is not interested in that. This was a pure business thing for him, and that broke my heart apart, piece by piece. "B-But since you are here, you can go and take a shower, make some food and get some sleep, we have plenty of rooms to sleep in and a lot of food too," Camille said as she was snuggling into her blanket. "Alright, you both go and get some sleep, I will stay awake and watch over you. Just in case zombies decides to visit." Chris said. "You need to rest Chris...Not only us." I told him, as I looked at him sadly. "Evelyn..." Chris said lowly, he changed his attitude to a softer one. He let out a sigh in defeat. "Fine, I will go and sleep." He said, given up. I smiled at him and stood up. "Alright, Camille, where are the bedroom and bathroom? I asked her. "Yea, I will show you right ahead," Camille answered and started showing us the bathroom and our rooms. "Sleep well, Evie and Chris." Camille smiled at us as she went downstairs.
"Well, who is going to take a shower first?" I asked Chris. "Both of us," he answered me with a straight face. "Wait, what?" I asked him. He can't be serious right now. "The warm might still be running and god knows when it will stop. Don't worry, the lights are out, I won't see or touch anything. Unless you want the opposite." Chris said, giving me a smirk. I rolled my eyes. "Don't you dare" I laughed and went inside the shower having Chris behind me. I felt a spark inside me, and for a second I hoped this innocent shower would turn into something more.
I entered the bathroom, slowly taking off my gear. Chris placed a lit candle on the side of the sink, lighting up the room the slightest and started taking off his gear too. I still wore my leather jacket, used to be a white slim t-shirt, now, filled with blood and dirt and black knee-high leggings. I slowly took off the jacket. I gathered up my courage and took off my t-shirt and leggings. I could feel Chris's gaze on me, his breath hitched at the sight. He probably gets any women he wants, and there is nothing special about me expect big boobs. Chris took off his shirt, and I, by accident, looked int the mirror. He was pretty ripped, his chest was covered slightly with chest hair. His torso was covered in painful-looking scars. I quickly averted my gaze and unhooked my bra and quickly covered my chest. I let out a sigh of embarrassment and without noticing, Chris was behind me. "C-Chris...." I said, my voice hitched as his hands travelled over my hips and up, his head resting on the crook of my neck. "Look at me...." Chris whispered to me. My breath hitched as bit my lip and turned to Chris, looking into his eyes. They were filled with lust, yet they looked so gentle. He placed his hand on my cheek, gently caressing it. "I want...you," Chris pressed his forehead on mine, breathing heavily. "T-Then take me..." I whined out, craving for his touch. Chris didn't waste any second and pressed his lips on mine and kissed me passionately. He pulled me closer to him, picking me up and placing on the sink, not even once breaking the kiss.
