Chapter 17

2940 Words
Monday morning brought wonderful surprises. Andrew ordered breakfast for them. He coaxed her into staying in bed while he fed her. Sonia wondered what the plan was for the day. Little did she know he had a day of pampering prepared just for her. Once they were dressed, Andrew took her to the hotel spa. Sonia was surprised and tried to talk him out of it, but Andrew was adamant about it, so she gave in. Andrew informed her that he had to meet Malcolm to discuss business and that he would be back in time for dinner. Andrew made arrangements for them to have a nice romantic dinner in the hotel restaurant tonight. Sonia enjoyed her day of pampering. She got some much-needed relaxation. She was smiling and happy. When she got back to the room, she lay down and fell asleep immediately. By dinnertime, Sonia was up and dressed, waiting for Andrew. He did say they were having dinner downstairs tonight, didn’t he? Sonia was a bundle of nerves. All the doubts and fear began to run through her mind. Maybe this trip wasn't such a good idea after all. 'No! Sonia, stop it.' She scolds herself. Andrew has his business to take care of, and it would be good if he had more than one project. That way, you won’t have to worry about your father finding you ever. She became impatient and picked up the phone to call him. When she began to dial several of the numbers, the door opened, and Andrew walked in. Surprised to see her standing there with the phone in her hand, he closed the door and wondered whom she was calling. He also noticed how stunning she looked. Andrew walked over to her with a smile on his face, took her into his arms, and kissed her soundly. Then, he said, “You look wonderful.” “Thanks.” She said breathlessly but not forgetting, "I was beginning to worry.” “I’m here. How was your day at the spa?” He asked, wanting to do more than just kiss her. Tasting every part of her came to mind. Making love to her was another thought. “Oh Andrew, it was wonderful, I had the most amazing time, but I don’t want you to keep spending money on me.” “Sonia? What kind of husband would I be if I didn’t spend money on you and my baby?” She froze. Did he just say what I think he said? 'His baby, did he say his baby?' Sonia tried not to look surprised, but she knew then that he was becoming more and more attached than she expected. She quickly disregarded what he said and decided to ask him about his day. “Ah, how did things go today with Malcolm?” Andrew wondered if she heard him but knew she was changing the subject, so he went along with it. “Productive, I have another job. I took the job with Malcolm. It’s only to complete the work that was already started, but it’s a job, right?” “Don’t say it like that, it’s more than just a job, you are wonderful at what you do and I’m glad for you.” Sonia hugged him. Being in his arms caused her body to react to the closeness and the wonderful feelings he’s caused. The baby must have felt it too because he kicked her. Looking at her stomach, she thought he must be hungry also. Andrew looked down when he felt the kick. It felt wonderful like he was a part of their lives. “Was that the baby, or are you hungry?” He asked, laughing. Sonia smiled, she caught the look he gave her. She could only hope to one day receive such love and understanding from someone like Andrew. She said, “Let’s go eat; I think someone else is hungry.” “Yes, just let me get cleaned up and changed, I’ll be down in a minute.” Sonia went down to the dining room and was led to the awaiting table that Andrew reserved. Sonia refused to think about what Andrew said just a while ago about the baby being his. No, she can’t let herself think about it. As if she didn’t have enough to deal with, several men came over to her and offered to buy her a drink or even dinner. She politely said no and that she was waiting for someone, but they kept trying. Just then, a gentleman walked into the dining area and looked around the room. It seemed as though he was looking for someone in particular. Sonia noticed how handsome and built he was, but she reminded herself she was married to a wonderful man. Then the man looked in her direction and smiled. He walked over. Sonia wondered how she was going to handle this situation if he came over to her table. Pretending not to see him as he came over to the table, she hoped he would keep walking. When she looked up, he was standing in front of her. He spoke. “Is this seat taken?” “Yes, actually it is I’m waiting for someone.” She could not help but smile, hoping he would not get the wrong idea. He was flirting with her, and she was enjoying it. “Well, maybe I could keep you company while you wait.” He was not about to take no for an answer. She was far too lovely to be left alone. He sat down anyway and just looked at her. Sonia could not believe the forwardness of this man. She looked at this stranger and said. “Okay.” Once he was seated, he started talking to her like they’d known each other a long time, not even introducing himself. “When I saw you sitting here all alone, I felt it was my duty to keep you company.” “Really and why is that?” Sonia all of a sudden felt beautiful, but who was she kidding? She knows better. “Well, a lovely lady such as yourself should never be left alone.” Malcolm knew he was putting it on thick, but he was not going to let her get away so easily. “But I do recall saying that I’m waiting for someone to join me.” Sonia blushed as she spoke. “Yes.” He said with a slow drawl. “But I don’t want you to wait alone. Especially with all these other men looking at you like you're the main course today.” He felt lucky. “I think my partner could handle it if necessary,” Sonia said, using her right hand to pull at her hair, wondering if everything was in place. “Really and where is he now?” Malcolm did not see a ring, but then again, her left hand was not on the table. He was still going to try and get her away from her date. “Getting dressed . . .” She said not to believe the conversation she was having with a total stranger and about her personal life. What would Andrew think if he saw her acting like a giddy schoolgirl? At the thought of Andrew, he came walking into the dining room and saw a man sitting at the table with Sonia. His first reaction was jealousy, and just seeing her laugh at what the man was saying to her and playing with her hair fueled his anger. Andrew wanted to walk over to the table and flatten this man whoever he was. He began to calm himself before walking over. Andrew reminded himself that until she fell in love with him, anything could happen but not on their honeymoon. Once he reached the table, he stopped just behind the man holding Sonia’s attention and smiling. Saying, "Is everything okay here, darling?” His tone of voice was endearing. Sonia could tell that Andrew was annoyed even though he was smiling. She quickly spoke up, wanting Andrew to know that she did everything in her power to de-sway this man. “I was saying to the gentleman, I have a dinner date.” She said, doing her best to disarm Andrew. Malcolm noticed the look in her eyes and knew that she would never give him that look and wondered who this man behind him could be. Turning around, both Malcolm and Andrew were surprised to see each other. Malcolm was a little jealous of his friend but could not wait for the whole story. Then he said. “Andy, I was just looking for you.” “MaI I can see how you would confuse us,” Andrew said, looking at Sonia. Then, he walked over to Sonia and kissed her. Malcolm could see Andrew was stalking him clam, but he also saw that his friend was in love and wanted to know more. Moving over, he allowed Andrew to pull up a chair, then said. “Ha, ha; No, the clerk said he would not give me your room number, and I thought you would have to come to dinner sometime. Oh, by the way, I brought the contracts over for you to sign.” Sonia didn’t say a word. She just allowed Andrew to place his arm across her shoulder. Andrew’s first thought was not the contract or his friend's company. No, he wants to spend time alone with Sonia. Looking over at Malcolm, he said. “I’ll take that, now goodnight.” Malcolm felt hurt or pretended to be, but he was not about to let Andrew get away without letting him know who this lovely lady was. “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your dinner companion?” Andrew sighed; he knew Mal would not let it go. “Actually . . .” He said, leaning closer to Sonia. “This is my wife Sonia Hastings.” To say he was shell-shocked was an understatement. Malcolm opened his mouth to say something, but no word came. This was an unexpected surprise. Malcolm looked from Andrew to Sonia, then back to Andrew. Malcolm had so many questions but didn’t know where to begin. His best friend was married to this stunning beauty. Mal just looked at them. Andrew saw the shock and smiled; never in all his time knowing Mal could he picture the look that was on his face. Well, someone had to find out sooner or later. Why not Malcolm? He introduced Sonia, “Sonia, this is my best friend and buddy Malcolm Chase.” Extending her hand, she said. “Nice to finally meet you, Malcolm . . .” Mal still can’t believe what Andrew just told him. “Married huh, can I ask when? How long? How come I’m now hearing about it? You've been keeping secrets.” “Mal, it's not like that. We were recently married on Saturday,” Andrew said while playing with Sonia’s neck. He knew he was showing off, but he didn’t care. Sonia belonged to him now, and he wanted everyone to know it. “So you’re on your honeymoon. Why didn’t you say something earlier we could have put off our business till later?” “Well, it was only going to be a surprise trip for Sonia as a honeymoon, but when I got your text, I decided to do both at the same time. Sonia understands.” He looked over at her and saw her expression and wondered if something was wrong. He leaned close to her and asked, "Is everything okay?" She said a-huh. Sonia could hardly breathe. She wanted Andrew to stop. He was beginning to wreak havoc on her senses with every touch of her neck. All she could do was smile and enjoy the conversation while trying to get her emotions in order. Plus, seeing the surprised look on Malcolm's face gave her hope that her aunt and best friend would react the same way. Then she asked Andrew to let Malcolm stay for dinner. “Okay, fine, Malcolm, please join us.” Malcolm never thought Andrew of all people would get married before he did. Besides, Mal knew his secret and how things ended with Leigh. But Sonia seemed different and not to mention very beautiful. He remembers when they were in college that he was the one talking about marriage and family. Andrew was the one talking about building a business and being financially happy. Now Andrew’s married, and Malcolm is the one with the business with great finances. Mal listened as they talked and wondered what could cause Andrew to have a change of heart. He knows that Sonia’s worth it, but there was something more. He knew it and couldn't wait to hear the full story. All this time Sonia’s stomach was so close to the table that Malcolm could not see it. Only when she excused herself to go to the lady's room did he notice it. Andrew got up and went around the chair to help her up. Malcolm could not believe his eyes; she was pregnant, and suddenly everything clicked or did it. Once she was out of earshot, he said. “Woo buddy, when did all of this happen, and how come I’m always the last to know? “Mal you’ll be happy to know you’re the first this time, and I can’t go into details, but I’m happy.” “I thought you could never... well, you know?” “Well I can, now stop gaping.” Andrew was not ready to reveal that part of his relationship with Sonia to the outside world no matter how close he and Malcolm are. “All I can say is she’s very you, and I wish you the best.” “Thanks, man. That means a lot to me.” Andrew was glad that Mal didn't push it. They were drinking and talking when Sonia returned to the table. She felt ready for anything; she had to get her emotions in check. The way Andrew touched her and played with her neck was driving her crazy and causing her feelings to accelerate, oh such wonderful feelings. The rest of the night went off without a hitch. They ate and talked more about business. Sonia liked Malcolm’ he is the first person to find out about their marriage and did not judge her at first glance. She was beginning to feel that this might work out after all. After dinner, they went back to the room, Andrew wanted to spend more time with her before going to bed. Once she came out of the bathroom ready for bed, he led her toward the balcony. The breeze and the sound of the ocean were soothing. Sonia leaned back on Andrews’s chest. “You know I can’t thank you enough for all of this?” “You don’t have to thank me for any of it. I want to do these things for you, for us, so we can get to a place of comfort and ease without stumbling over each other and form some sort of common ground for our marriage.” “I know, but I feel like I have to repay you somehow.” Andrew gently turned her to face him. “Repay me, Sonia honey don’t make this out to be I do for you, you do for me. I don’t want that. I do things for you because I want to see you happy and smiling. Besides, it is good for the baby. . .” “Andrew...” She wanted so much to kiss him to love him. To show him just how wonderful he makes her feel. Then she pulled back and said, “I love everything you’ve done for me and the baby, now come to bed.” Just the way she said to come to bed gave Andrew hope that tonight would be the night. But a last no! Andrew lay down on his side of the bed, and Sonia lay on hers. The night started restlessly because he wanted to hold Sonia, but didn’t want to overstep his bounds, but it ended with Sonia in his arms curled up to him. Andrew could smell everything that made her who she was. He wondered if he had at some point hurt the baby, but she didn’t seem to be in pain. Andrew let himself relax and continued to hold her while looking at her. He drank in every inch of her, learning everything about her body. Moving closer to her he gently kissed her nose, then her eyes, when she didn’t stir he continued feathering kisses all over her face until she reached out and put her arm across his waist, and her leg went across his thighs. His body reacted to the closeness, which made it very hard for him to go back to sleep. He lay there with the thought of her running through his mind. Thinking of what he wants to do to her at this very moment, his lovely wife, his life, and his child. Yes, to him, this baby was as much a part of him as he was of her. This was what he always wanted a family of his own. Now that he had that chance, he was not going to let her go or cause her to ever want him to go. Andrew continued to hold her, enjoying every move she and the baby made.
