As the days passed, Emily found herself adapting to the demanding pace of Thompson Industries. She learned to anticipate Alex's needs, and her reports began to impress even the toughest critics.

But despite her growing confidence, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that she was walking on thin ice. Alex's approval was fleeting, and his temper was legendary.

"What are you doing, Emily?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.

Emily froze, her heart racing. "I-I was just looking for a file," she stammered.

Alex's gaze narrowed. "You're meddling in things you don't understand," he said, his voice dripping with warning. "Leave it alone, Emily. For your own good."

As he turned to leave, Emily caught a glimpse of something in his eyes - a flicker of pain, a hint of sorrow. And in that moment, she realized that Alex's ruthless exterior hid a secret, one that he guarded with his life.
