Chapter 9: Emily and Alex agreed to keep their distance, but it was harder than they thought. They still had to work together, and the tension between them was palpable. Emily threw herself into her work, trying to distract herself from the ache in her heart. But every time she saw Alex, she felt a pang of longing. Alex, too, struggled to maintain his composure. He couldn't concentrate on meetings, and his usual sharp instincts were dulled by his emotions. One day, as they worked late, Alex found himself alone with Emily in the office. He turned to her, his eyes searching. "Emily, I—" But she cut him off, her voice firm. "We agreed to keep our distance, Alex. Let's not make this harder than it has to be." Alex nodded, but his eyes lingered on hers, filled with a deep sadness. As the days turned into weeks, the distance between them grew. They became polite strangers, their conversations stilted and formal. But Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that a part of her was dying inside. She missed Alex, missed their laughter, their banter, their connection. And then, just as she thought things couldn't get worse, she received an unexpected phone call... What happens next?
