Chapter 12:
Emily agreed to meet with Sarah and the board of directors, hoping that Sarah's influence would be enough to sway them. As she walked into the conference room, she felt a mix of nerves and determination. Alex was by her side, his hand brushing against hers in a show of support.
Sarah was already seated at the table, her expression serene. The board members looked stern, but Emily detected a hint of curiosity in their eyes.
"Let's get straight to it," Sarah said, her voice confident. "I believe Emily and Alex's relationship is an asset to this company. Their love and commitment to each other can be a powerful symbol of our values."
The board members exchanged skeptical glances, but Sarah pressed on. "I know I've opposed this relationship in the past, but I've come to realize that I was wrong. Emily and Alex are meant to be together, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen."
The room fell silent, with all eyes on the board members. Emily held her breath, waiting for their response.....
Chapter 13: The Verdict
The board members conferred with each other, their whispers and murmurs filling the room. Emily's anxiety grew with each passing moment. Finally, the chairman cleared his throat and spoke.
"We've considered Sarah's proposal, and...we're willing to give it a chance. We'll allow Emily and Alex to continue their relationship, publicly, without fear of repercussions."
Emily's heart soared as Alex squeezed her hand. But then the chairman added, "However, there's one condition: they must participate in a company-sponsored PR campaign, showcasing their relationship as a symbol of our company's values."
Emily's excitement faltered. A PR campaign? That sounded like a whole new level of scrutiny...
Sarah smiled, seeming to sense Emily's hesitation. "Trust me, Emily. This is a good thing. It'll help change the company's image, and it'll give you and Alex the freedom to be together, openly."
But as Emily looked at Alex, she saw a flicker of doubt in his eyes. Was this really what they wanted? Or were they just trading one set of secrets for another?
