The Dilemma

Chapter 11:
Emily hesitated, unsure of what to do. A part of her wanted to trust Sarah, to believe that she genuinely wanted to help. But another part of her remembered the pain and betrayal she had felt when Sarah had exposed her relationship with Alex to the board of directors.
"Sarah, I...I don't know what to say," Emily stammered. "Why should I trust you now, after everything that's happened?"
Sarah sighed, her voice filled with regret. "I know I don't deserve your trust, Emily. But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make things right. I'll do it for Alex, and for myself. I need to make amends."
Emily thought about Alex, about how much she loved him, and how much she wanted to be with him. She thought about the possibility of a future together, without the weight of secrets and lies.
"Okay," Emily said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll take a chance. But if you're playing me, Sarah...if you're using me to hurt Alex again..."
"I'm not," Sarah promised. "I swear it on my life. I'll do everything in my power to help you two be together."
Emily took a deep breath, feeling a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, this was the chance they needed.
