RIVER Opening my eyes, I was met with the morning light spilling faintly through the curtains. It was time to get up and head to Lexi’s place. Sitting up, my back should have been sore from the floor, but it wasn’t. Somehow, I’d had the best sleep in years, and for a moment, I just lay there with my eyes closed, basking in the weightlessness in my chest. When I eventually opened my eyes, I quietly reached for my phone and deactivated the alarm I had set last night before it went off. Lexi still had another hour before getting up, and I didn’t want to wake her. Plus, I could see myself out; this was my house, after all. I stood and let my eyes fall on her, still curled under the covers. Her breathing was soft, and her features—well, my features—were calm in a way I had never seen them
