LEXI Stumbling inside River’s house, I barely registered the warmth of the entryway or the faint sound of the TV playing in the living room. My chest felt tight, my breathing uneven and shallow as I kicked off my shoes and bolted straight for the hallway. “River?” Mrs. Lane’s voice rang out from the kitchen, but I couldn’t answer her.
