“You did all this for me?” Mrs. Lane’s lips trembled as she finally formed a sentence.
“Yes. I saw how much the closure of the program hurt you, how much it meant to you, how happy it made you... I wanted you to feel that again, to be happy.”
I didn’t finish. She broke down before I could, a sob ripping from her chest as tears slid down her face. My chair scraped back as I shot up and hurried to her. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her tightly as she cried into my chest.
“Thank you,” she choked out between sobs. “Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me. I don’t deserve you. God knows… I don’t.”
