RIVER The question blindsided me, and my eyes flicked to hers as I tried to school my face into something casual. “No… one yet.” She didn’t look surprised. Instead, she gave a little sigh, then a smile. “Well, don’t you worry. I’m sure someone will. They’re probably just… nervous. Asking a girl to prom can be daunting for boys.” I gave her a half smile, nodding in agreement, knowing exactly what she meant while thinking about the fact that it was even worse for me because the girl’s mother didn’t even like me for her daughter. I swallowed hard, letting my smile linger just enough to reassure her. She then exited the room and mentioned that she needed to begin preparing dinner, while I was advised to catch up on some schoolwork or at least attempt to do so before school the next day
