The final bell rang, and relief washed over me as I let out a long sigh. I would be lying if I said I had managed to focus on anything today. My mind had been consumed by one thing only—the message from Principal Taylor.
I packed my books quickly, stacking them into my backpack with no care for order before zipping it shut and slinging it over my shoulder before anyone could slow me down.
Without wasting another second, I slipped out of the classroom. I needed to return to the facility to speak with River and inform him of what was happening. They had taken his phone, so he had no way of knowing, and I needed him to prepare himself.
I had no idea what he could say or do to avoid the suspension, but I wanted him to try. I couldn’t afford to get suspended.
