Chapter 19: Itch Sydney sat in the woods out back of her cabin and held her collection of medallions in the palm of her hand. Before this camp, she’d invested in excellent bug spray, and it was working. She leaned against the trunk of a tree and wriggled herself into a more comfortable position in the dirt. She was the definite winner at this point, even if Rebecca won all the remaining challenges. It had been a good week. She’d worked on algebra with Jen Chandrasekar every night, texted her mom every morning, and basked in praise from Danielle Baker. She felt good when she pitched. Loose but powerful. It still felt weird not to have texts from Kayla, but she was enjoying her freedom. She ought to have been happy, but her throat felt tight, and she’d been tearing up all morning. Sydney
