Chapter 5: Rattled
It was such a relief to be out of the house for a week. Sydney had put on her bounciest music in the car on the way to camp and sung along at the top of her lungs. She’d grinned through morning drills. At lunch in the cafeteria, she’d happily piled her plate with food that other girls complained about. She sat with Alyssa Tang and a few other Seabirds girls who’d signed up for camp, and every joke seemed funnier than usual. Sydney felt like nothing could go wrong.
Then they returned to the diamonds to be assigned to teams for the afternoon’s game, and Sydney got forcefully reminded about Rebecca Howard. Not that she’d exactly forgotten.
