Chapter 13: Stay With Me
Sydney had been sitting outside Kayla’s house for ten minutes, but she couldn’t get up the courage to exit her car. She took a deep breath and decided to go for another lap. She was pulling slowly out of the driveway when the front door opened. Kayla walked out.
With the windows rolled up and the AC blasting, Sydney couldn’t hear her, but she couldn’t drive away again now while her girlfriend watched. She sighed and shut off the car.
Kayla ran to the driver’s side door before Sydney could get out. She was wearing the necklace Sydney had ordered with her dad’s credit card. Unfolding herself from the Mazda, Sydney felt gangly and awkward.
Kayla’s eyes were wide. “Sydney? What’s going on? Sydney—” She cut herself off with a gasp so dramatic, it would have been fun
