23 The sun was high in the sky and soon Brian’s clothes were drenched in sweat. He cursed as he staggered forward—not giving a damn whether Ted somehow saw him walking away. If Ted dared come close, Brian would deck him. Brian didn’t care if Ted was bigger or stronger than him. And he didn’t care that Ted had likely killed before either. If confronted, Ted would answer for what he’d done. Brian kept to the pavement near the edge of the road, ready to flag down passing vehicles. Brian hadn’t hitchhiked before but given his current predicament he’d risk it.
