CHAPTER 1: Time would tell.
SERA's POV
"Die and rot in hell for all I care!" Bella laughed madly like she used to do, but this time, it wasn't all about hate; it was different.
My life was about to end, and all the suffering I endured was because of her, Bella.
“How could you?" I managed to lay out those words, even though they pierced through my chest.
“What have I ever done to you?” My voice cracked as I stared at her. She was supposed to guide me, protect me, as her twin, but here she was, acting like a pain in my flesh.
"B...Bella," tears ran down my hot cheeks as I pleaded.
“Are you really that stupid?" She snapped, hatred following every word.
All this while, Bella always hated me, but I had no idea why. Even though the bully, insults grew, I was clueless.
"What do you really want?" I begged.
She kicked my outstretched hand away like I was a beggar.
“This…” She pointed at my face as she cleared her throat and continued.
“Your face. Everyone always loved you and gained their trust, but why not me?" Her fists clenched, her whole body shook with rage.
“I hate you so much that I hate myself for hating you this much!”
“It's not my fault, Bella. I never asked for this, all of it,” I stutter, unable to catch my breath.
"It was your fault for being this beautiful and acting like a saint, and now everyone glanced at me like I was the devil." She yanked my already throbbing head and banged it to the cold, unforgiving wall of the abandoned store.
"You stole everything, my life, my happiness, my love; why couldn't it be me?” Her voice cracked as she stuttered, but her hands were still on my hair.
Because of all this, I received, just for a useless reason. Locked up for three days, in pain, only because I was perfect and not like her.
The reality of her words dawned on me.
She was right after all.
She had always been the one attending galas and grabbing people's attention, and I was the hidden stone behind her glow.
Maybe everyone loved me, even though I barely made an effort.
"You don't deserve Julius either!" A drop of tear ran down her face as she lamented. "Mum and Dad loved me more than you, but when you came back, everything changed!"
My stomach twisted violently.
How was it my fault? I was alone, peacefully living with Grandmom, and now this?
I never knew all that attention from Mom and Dad toward me would turn her into this.
“I never loved Julius,” I spat out the truth even though it hurt so bad.
“Mom and Dad had set up the engagement before I came back," I tried explaining, but her face said another thing.
It was filled with hatred.
Disguised.
"Mum and Dad?" she yelled, but they were off.
Her eyes were ablaze with raw jealousy. "If you have told them you wanted the engagement revoked, they would have done that!” She stopped, cleared her throat, and then continued.
“But ever since Julius had turned himself into your baby boy, what else do I expect?" Bella chuckled, with a little laugh filled with pain.
"But I never love him." My voice turned awfully low as I thought about what she meant.
"I was only close to him because of his best friend, whom I had a crush on since..."
Bella chuckled, her eyes rolling in the air as she placed her gaze on me. "Zenthos Miller?”
"That obnoxious jerk would do anything for me! He had always been in love with me, and you? He wouldn't even allow you to be his maid's favorite; don't be delusional.” Bella pulled out the gum as she chewed it.
"Please, I need more time. I would do everything for Zen to like me, and then you could have yours, Julius," I pleaded, even though my eyes felt heavy from the soreness.
Just then, Bella's designer heels clicked ominously against the cold concrete floor as she approached me. The sound echoed eerily in the empty warehouse.
"Zen wouldn't even dare look at you; he never loved you." She turned toward the entrance, and there I thought she was done, but she turned back and faced me sharply. "I don't love Julius, actually. Too weak for my type,”
"Then why…all these, my engagement? Wait, you do love him?" I questioned, even though it sounded stupid.
Bella burst into laughter so hard that I felt foolish just because of that. "He tried to protect you from us and was the one who owned the land I gave you as a birthday gift. Everything I gave you was from him! You wouldn't take anything from him, right?” She raised her eyebrows.
He cared about me?
When?
It's never true, not at this point. The land, the gift, everything I thought held us as sisters were all a lie, things gotten from someone else.
All the time, I tried to make out time for the two of them alone, but it was all a delusion.
But...Suddenly, she grabbed my chin, her fingers digging into my skin as she forced me to look at her in the eye.
"Your crush, lover. I would do everything in my power so that he wouldn't look your way, but only mine.” She clicked her tongue and took a deep breath.
"I would steal everything from you, till you're worthless.” Bella chuckled, her eyes filled with happiness, but there was something, a drip of tears that was hiding.
My voice broke in. "No. Not Zenthos, please."
She scoffed. "Anyway,” she rolled her eyes in the air and then continued. “Your best friend was found dead, but that…would be my least problem."
My heart beats dropped. "Wh...what?"
"I never knew she was asthmatic. It's a pity; the men were so fierce.”
Tears blurred my vision as the reality rushed in. Recalling the last moment we had, three days before I came into this mess, I had tried her number but it went to voicemail.
“Dead?” Three days in this mess, and this was how you could repay me?
How could I have been so stupid?
Still at this point, I couldn't stop the memories we had together.
"You're a monster!" The screams escaped my lips.
"Bella, I would kill you!!!"
Just then, as I rose up, ready to step forward and strangle her neck, the door opened. I turned only to meet Zenthos as he walked in, his eyes sharp and his clothes well-fitted, as usual.
“Zen…" I called out, even though the voice of Bella, her laughter, and warnings roamed in my mind, but I wouldn't quit.
Immediately, Zen dragged Bella gently as he placed a kiss on her lips.
