Turning around, I was greeted by Alpha Kaiser's smiling face. He was the Alpha of the Mist pack after taking after his father not long ago.

Kaiser and I knew each other through our parents. His father was a close friend with my father and they often visited the pack. He had a pleading look on his face as he stretched his hand towards me.

“ Even if you don't consider me enough to be your mate, don't deny me this dance.” He whispered. Looking around, it's like everyone was observing our interaction.

Smiling, I took his hand in mine and took a step closer to him and we started to sway to the music.

“ You saw him right?That's why you agreed to dance with me.” Kaiser observed.

“Since you know it, why bother asking?” I refuted with a glare. I hated it that he always knew what I was thinking. It's like he lived at the back of my mind.

“ Relax Ophelia. You know I don't mind it if you use me to make him feel jealous.” He replied and I looked away.

Was I really doing this to make him jealous? But wasn't that being too full of myself? There's no way that asshole would feel jealous over me. I wasn't that important to him and that's something he made crystal clear to me about.

“ Just shut up, will you?” I reprimanded him.

Kaiser looked hurt by my words. Growing up, he never shied from declaring that he liked me.

After his eighteenth birthday, he did not find his mate and came looking for me. He believed that the reason he didn't find her was a sign that I was meant for him. When he asked me to be his girlfriend, I refused because to me, finding my fated mate was something I always fantasised about and I was not willing to settle with anyone else apart from my fated mate. I also made it clear to him that to me, he was just a friend. I never thought of him as a man I could share my life with. Don't get me wrong, Kaiser is everything a woman would want in a man, just that I wasn't among any woman.

“Ophelia, I respected your decision when you found your mate and I was happy for you. Now that things have come to this, won't you give me a chance? Allow me to love you without any limits. I want to…”

“ Stop! Please stop…” I breathed out, tears streaming down my face.

His words, although aimed to make me feel good and special, only managed to thrust me back to what I was fighting hard to forget.

They reminded me of the biggest mistake I had made in my life. As if getting humiliated wasn't enough, my father lost something important to the pack that day.

To save my sorry ass, he put the pack into grave danger. I have always felt guilty about it and Kaiser's words poked that sore spot.

Love me without limits? Wasn't that the same line he used on me back then? But what did I get instead? Pain, betrayal and humiliation.

Kaiser seemed taken aback by my reaction.

“ I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…”

Before he could finish his words, I pulled away before excusing myself.

I could feel a heated gaze directed my way but I didn't bother to turn around and see who it was.

“What's wrong princess?” My father's concerned voice sounded from the mindlink. He must have been observing me the whole time or my emotions were all over the link.

“ I want to get some fresh air. It's stuffed here.” I lied.

“ Are you sure? I feel like you are disturbed.” My father pressed.

Being his only daughter, he has always paid extra attention to me. At a time like this, I don't know if I should be happy or not.

“ Positive.” I replied before blocking the mindlink. I wanted to be alone and with the mindlink on, that wasn't going to be possible.

Leaving the hall, I wandered deep into the woods and before I knew it, I was standing outside a cabin.

“ I can see you have not forgotten about me.” A familiar voice sounded from behind me,making me stiffen.

His scent invaded my nostrils and I had to fight a moan slipping past my lips.

He stepped closer and I could feel his hot breath fanning my neck.

“ Goddess, I missed this.” He murmured , breathing in my scent.

I stepped away even when my wolf wanted nothing but to throw us in his arms.

“ What are you doing here?” I asked , glaring at him. Did he follow me all the way here?

“ I should be the one asking you that. You wandered into my land.” Asher scoffed and that's when I realised I just crossed the border separating our pack with his.

“ Did you miss what we would do here because I do. I miss hearing you moan my name as I thrust deep inside you. I miss how your body felt under mine.” Asher breathed out, his hands snaking around my waist and pulling me to himself. His musky scent clouded my mind and I let out a moan.

“ You can't deny that I turn you on in ways no other man can ever do.” He shamelessly declared and that was my cue to push him away.

“ Don't be so full of yourself. I want nothing to do with you.” I can't believe that with all the hatred I felt for this man, I allowed him to emotionally manipulate me.

That's what he always did in the past and because I was blinded by the mating bond, I would give in everytime. I allowed him to toy with my body and feelings.

I would believe everything he said. Even after months of not marking me despite practically living with him, I still believed it when he said it wasn't the right time. Alas! The right time to be marked never came, only rejection awaited.

“ You are mine Ophelia, you better let your little friend know that. No man can have you apart from me.”
