The heavy rain pouring down did nothing to ease the pain I was feeling. As I made my way back to the pack, my mind wandered back to the words he spat. “ No one can ever save you from me ,Ophelia. You are stuck to me for as long as I want. You belong to me Ophelia, you are mine.” He had declared possessively before claiming my lips in a harsh kiss. He bit my lip, drawing blood. Only then did he let me go. I had provoked him by doing something I wasn't able to do that day. I accepted his rejection. After the pain of breaking the bond eased, something snapped inside Asher and he looked terrifying like a devil. Fear kicked in and I attempted to flee but Asher dragged me back and almost forced himself on me. Before he could do it, he suddenly retreated, shifted and took off. Picking myself up, I headed back to the pack. The rain seemed to be unforgiving as the drops hit me harshly. I could feel my wolf whispering in pain. She was the one who bore the brunt of a broken matebond. It's still a miracle that she still hung around. The last time Asher humiliated and rejected us before his pack members, she retreated to the back of my mind to heal. It wasn't until recently she showed herself up. Arriving at the pack, I was glad that my father wasn't waiting to ambush me with questions. Sneaking into my room, I took a quick shower and got under the blanket. When the sun rises tomorrow, it will be a new day. A new day to make a fresh start. The following day, I woke up early and prepared to go for my morning run when a maid arrived to inform me that there was a guest waiting for me. The first person who came into my mind was Kaiser. “ Can you tell him that I'm not feeling well?” I didn't want to get bombarded with apologies I did not deserve. The maid shook her head. “ I can't. The alpha specifically instructed me to bring you to the meeting room.” She added, making me frown. The meeting room? Why would Kaiser want to meet me there? Wasn't he making a big deal out of nothing? Nodding, I instructed her to wait for me outside as I changed my clothes. I wasn't going to meet him with some jogging pants and a sports bra. I don't want to give him a bad impression. After a few minutes, I left my room. The maid was waiting for me outside. “ Lead the way.” I instructed and she nodded. Although I could make my way to the meeting room, I didn't want to get her into trouble with my father. If he instructed her to bring me, she was supposed to accompany me or else she would answer to my father. Sometimes, I can't decipher why my father is strict with the maids in the pack. Rumour has it that a maid's negligence caused my mother's death. I don't know how true that is. I never dared to confirm because my mother's name always made my father sad. Minutes later, we arrived in the meeting room. The first thing I realised was a masked man seated next to my father with another man I didn't recognize. My father's Beta, uncle Simon was there. Surprisingly, Kaiser was also present. After my father dismissed the maid, he motioned me to take the empty seat across from him. I did as asked without asking a question. The air inside the room screamed serious business. “ Alpha Noah, why don't you tell your daughter the proposal I made since she is here?” The masked man spoke. His voice sounded… familiar but I could not tell exactly where I heard it. “ I don't mean to be rude, King Julian but this is not right. Ophelia is not some prize to be won.” Kaiser spoke, making me frown. Something he said had me frowning. King Julian? Wasn't that the name of the Lycan king? And what prize? “ What's going on here?” I asked, my eyes regarding my father who looked away in…guilt? I turned to look at Kaiser and he too looked away. “Since your father is reluctant to spill the beans, I'll lend him a helping hand. I proposed a marriage alliance between your pack and mine. You will marry me in exchange for protection.” The man said, his words weighing down on my soul like a heavy load. “ Protection? We don't need any protection.” I retorted but the look he gave me had me thinking I must have said something really stupid. “ I see that your father didn't tell you about the threats he is getting from his rival packs.” The man replied, making me turn to look at my father who didn't dare look me in the eye. “ King Julian, is there something you want other than my daughter?” My father's pained voice sounded, making my heart tremble. He had a pleading look on his face, something I never saw my father have all my life. “ I don't want anything from your pack. She is the key to this deal. There's not much time to think, you know your pack can't afford to be attacked especially if the enemy is him.” The Lycan king said. Something sounded awfully wrong about his words. Who is this ‘him’ he is referring to? The look of terror on my father's face deepened my frown. “Are you threatening Alpha Noah? Even if he attacks, my pack will stand behind him no matter what.” Kaiser fumed. He seemed displeased with the Lycan King's words. The man snickered. “We both know that you would never stand a chance against him. Only I can challenge him.” The Lycan king said. Kaiser sighed in defeat. Looking between the three men in the room, I felt lost. “ Who is planning to attack us? Father, say something!” I cried. “ Alpha Asher!” My father croaked out and my blood froze.
