After my longgg and very interesting flashback, I had to rush into the shower. It was already ten minutes to 8, ten minutes to Assembly. I couldn't miss that, especially since Jason was sports prefect. Getting a shower wasn't the real deal by the way. It was the thirty six different ways I tried to style my hair, to look "perfect." I picked up my phone and looked at the time. Thirty minutes past eight! "Maybe youuuu should just skip school today and give a mighty entrance tomorrow", I thought. That thought was interrupted by hasty knocks on the door.
"Urghhh! Don't you know how to use the door bell?", I yelled running down the stairs while adjusting my uniform. I opened the door and not to my surprise, it was our new neighbour. Miss Daffodil!
"Miss D, how can I help you today? What is it this time? Your cat get stuck on the chimney?", I laughed sarcastically.
Her look was quite stern. "I don't have a chimney actually, which you'd know if you actually pay attention any time you pop by, like your brother.", she stated.
I scoffed. " I'm gonna have to ask you to take that back....ma", I added. "That is so not true, my brother isn't better than me."
She gave me a knowing look. "Oh really? I'm pretty sure you're late for school, I mean look at the time, dear. I came to check on your mother, she didn't come to our usual exercise spot today. Is she alright?", Miss Daffofil asked.
"Mum? She was fine yesterday, I guess. I haven't seen her today...I just assumed she'd gone to work. Maybe something urgent came up. Whenever she gets back, I'll let her know you dropped by.", I assured her.
She shrugged and went back to her house. "Phew". Oh no, I was now super late. I immediately ran upstairs, grabbed a few books and my stockings.. I couldn't believe I was running to school on the first day. The sun was hot and time seemed to be so slow. Or maybe I was just very bad at running. I remembered the one time I had to race Claire in Physical Education and she won me by a land slide. Very tough and embarrassing for a soft chick like me!
By the time I reached school, I was already so sweaty and exhausted. That was when it dawned on me that I didn't eat before leaving the house or pack myself any lunch. Mum usually did that before she left for work, but today was oddly different. I really hoped she was okay. As I struggled to arrange my thoughts together, I bumped into a tall, muscular huge figure.
"Can't youuuu see where you're going?", I thundered. By the time I saw who it was, I wanted to swallow the words back. But, it was too late. Jason! Jason! How exactly could this be Jason? He looked so much more handsome, taller and cuter. Just in the space of three months! I didn't realise I was practically drooling. His rude words called me back to reality, sadly.
"Hey doll face. Watch it! You've ruined my perfect shirt with your sweaty clothes and messy hair. Gosh! I knew Theo leaving you at home was a very bad idea. Did you even polish your shoes?"
Actually, I didn't even notice. Or maybe all the running just made them dirty or even dirtier. Before, I could say a word, Claire and her group of minions surrounded Jason.
"Oh, Jason. Leave the poor little thing alone. It's bad enough she doesn't have a father. Mama's probably too busy paying the bills that she doesn't have time to teach her daughter how to actually groom.", she laughed.
That was it. I launched forward to give her a slap but Jason held me back. "No, Dianne. Don't do it."
I don't know where the confidence came from, but suddenly, I redirected the slap to him instead. It echoed throughout the empty halls, a crowd soon gathered to see what the commotion was all about.
"Now you know my name? Gosh! I waited three years. All you guys do is mock and bully me. What exactly is the fun in that? Stay away from me and don't you dare speak ill about my parents, ever! They're better than you and your entire bloodline combined. Shouldn't you be in Senior class already, Claire? That's right, I know your secret and I'm done protecting it.",I screamed.
Everyone gasped. "She repeated a grade? Wow! Wow! Wow!" "She slapped Jason? Omggg. The confidence for me" "it's about time, he was getting way too full of himself." "She just murdered her social life." "No way, I'm definitely inviting her to my next party.".. the whispers echoed through the hall.
I brushed past them and gave Jason one last hurtful look. He just kept staring at the floor.
Someone then called me aggressively as I struggled to move past them. "Dianne! Dianne! Dianne".
It was Theo. "Why are you just coming by this time? You're lucky everyone is in class already."
"Helloooooo", he waved trying to get my attention. What did he mean everyone was in class? How did they disperse so quickly? It didn't take Theo up to 30 seconds to understand.
"One of your day dreams again, isn't it? Let me guess, you sat beside Jason?", he sighed.
"Omgggg", I whispered, embarrassed. Every single encounter I just had in the hallway was all a fake scenario. Urghhhh! Fake scenarioholic!!!!! Ofc it was fake! You didn't possibly think that I would actually slap the guy I'd been trying to get noticed by for three good years, did you?
Theo shook his head, took my backpack from me and walked me into the class. I had to take a seat at the front because no one wanted to sit there. People started giggling of course. "Ohhh, why don't the siblings get married already?.."
I rolled my eyes at them while Theo nudged me to ignore. "I'm sorry my love. That's your strength. You get it? Your strength and not mine!"
Luckily, the teacher wasn't in class. Phew! I don't think you're ready for what happened next though...
