“Where are you going?”
The sudden question in the quiet, dimly lit bedroom had Andrea’s heart jump to the back of her throat. She jolted, yelped, and then tumbled the rest of the way off the bed. Her arms flared in the air like a bird attempting to fly even as her feet twisted in the sheets and sent her sprawling to the floor in a thudding heap, which knocked the air out of her lungs.
For a few seconds, Andrea lay on her back dazed with her sheet-covered legs still halfway up on the bed. It took her a moment to orient herself and remember which way was up. And even longer to finally slow her heartbeat back to normal and open her eyes.
