She was confused and lost. Does this man even know me? She asked herself. Was their love life real or just a mere pretence?
Jason's feet made contact with it, and he continued, “What do you think, I'll empathise with you and leave Emily?”
“It's true Jason – do you even know me? please give it back!” Sophia cried.
“Please!!!” her voice, filled with emotions.
“If anything we ever shared was real, then stop, please. I'm begging you.” She wailed, with hiccuping breaths.
The sound of the jewellery snapping sent her falling to her knees. It was as if her whole world had just crumbled.
She crawled to his feet, trying to pick up the broken pieces. She couldn't believe he had broken it after all that happened between them. Is this the same person she was married to?
“That's the son a mother should be proud of,” Rebecca rejoiced as he snapped it. Followed by several mockeries from others.
A malevolent grin played on his lips, as he bent down to look at her, “Ah Yes, just like that. Now you look like your fellow beggars and slut – but with a taste for gold.”
Maya bit the fingers of the guard, trying to loosen his grip, “Don't listen to them, Sophie. You deserve –” the guard knocked her out, with a heavy blow.
As if that wasn't enough, Jason kicked the pieces around, making it hard for her to pick them.
Maya was left powerless and hurt, she couldn't help her friend. She tried to fight out of his grip, but it was of no use.
Sophia just silently gathered the pieces. She stood up, casting a final glare at everyone, and then she stormed outside, her wails becoming palpable.
The laughter increased behind her as she slammed the door, running as fast as she could to her Mercedes Benz. She got in and locked the doors.
“Ahhh!” She screamed, slamming hard on the steering wheel multiple times. Her outburst increased, and her eyes got red and irritated by its excessive downpour.
All she felt was her breaths getting shorter and her heart throbbing with pain. She didn't know where she had messed up to deserve such treatment. A family who once loved her now turned their backs against her, calling her names.
She started the ignition and fled the compound. She wanted to go as far away from everyone as she could, even from herself.
However, nothing hurt her as much as losing her mother's pendant. That was the only thing giving her hope and purpose, and as soon as it snapped, she felt something break loose inside her.
Ignoring the traffic lights and warnings. She sped through an intersection, which was followed by loud police sirens, screaming behind her.
She smiled, if she got locked up, she would be better off than living with the people she called family, she thought to herself.
Her tyres ran over a large pothole, she lost control, spun sideways and crashed violently into a Rolls Royce Cullinan, and she blacked out.

The next morning, Sophia woke up on a bed with an IV fluid attached to her wrist. Her head banged hard and she pressed her hands lightly against them.
She turned around the dimly lit room, trying to figure out where she was and how she got there.
All she remembered was being chased like a fugitive by the cops before crashing into a luxurious car – she paused, trying to recollect everything that had happened – She had a freaking accident and survived!
Seems my luck hasn't run out yet, she whispered.
“Mate,” A soothing voice said, from across the room.
She quickly turned towards it and realised that a man had been standing there the whole time. He turned on the light, and she squinted her eyes, before opening it.
Her eyes widened in shock at the realisation that he was no other person but Liam Cross.
The wealthiest man in the country, even the government were at his mercy. He was the mysterious man in front of every newspaper and magazine.
But what was he doing in the same room with her? She furrowed her brows. Oh s**t! I must have crashed into him.
“I'm so sorry about your car, Mister, I didn't mean to.” She pleaded, “I didn't know what got over me.”
He looked at her little gestures, and his thin lips curved ever so slightly into a smile.
Why was he smiling, she asked herself. He should be mad at me, I don't even deserve to be medically attended to.
His blue eyes locked onto her, “It's fine, I already got a new one.” His words were calm and measured.
Her forehead contorted, “Oh, no! I'm so sorry, I know they are really expensive.” She said, “How can I ever repay you?”
He moved in closer, and sat beside her, gently brushing her hair from her face, ignoring the question she asked, “Tell me, why was my mate being chased by the cops?”
Sophia saw his face come to light, and he was truly out of this world! She squealed. She felt her heart rate increase as he sat beside her.
And the way he brushed her hair made her stomach churn. His touch sent a tingling sensation through her body.
Why do I feel so peaceful around him? She wondered. I don't even know him. And why does he keep calling me, mate?
“I– I don't know… I can't remember, ” she stuttered, sweat bulbs forming on her head, and her cheeks flushed.
He's so hot! She couldn't wait to tell, Maya… oh wait, Maya!
It was at that moment it dawned on her. She had left her best friend in the hands of those monsters.
Oh, Henry! How could she have forgotten? Mr. Liam's presence was so intoxicating!
The divorce. Emily's pregnancy. She remembered now, and her face contorted into a frown. Her eyes started to itch, and tears began to well up.
She froze on the spot as she felt the weight of yesterday's revelation linger in her heart.
Liam's eyes narrowed into a slit, he undoubtedly couldn't comprehend all she felt. But he knew it was no good.
He stood up as he noticed his beta, Isaac, walk into the room.
Isaac whispered something into his ears and after a while, his impassive expression changed into a frown as he stared at Sophia.
