Chapter 3: Deception

Sophia, however, was consumed in a dilemma. Tears slowly trickled down her cheeks, as she pondered about the divorce and her mom's pendant. She unconsciously placed her hand on her stomach, and her eyebrows furrowed – it felt unusual. “My baby!” She called out. “I hope my baby is okay?” She asked hesitantly, remembering how violently she had crashed. Liam turned towards Isaac before turning back to her, “Calm down, Sophia. The nurse is already on her way here.” Moments after, the nurse, Leah, walked in. She sat right beside her, placing a hand on hers as if wanting to comfort her. “You're making me scared.” Sophia cried, her voice trembling. “Is my baby okay?” She asked again, and tension filled the room. Leah stared pitiably at her, giving a long sigh, before she started, “I'm sorry miss, but–” “But what?” Sophia cut in, pulling Leah's dress violently, “Please tell me!” Leah shook her head, and said, “Your baby didn't survive the shock your body went through– I'm so sorry but it's no more.” Sophia sobbed her heart out, pushing and pulling Leah. “Why couldn't you save it?” She bawled, her outbursts were relentless. Liam could feel his wolf's rage increase with each passing second, his eyes almost turning pitch black. He watched her tears cascade down her cheek, and he clenched his jaw tightly upon the sight of it. He swore that Jason would pay dearly. With a deep inhale, he remained impassive, “You can leave now,” turning to his beta, his deep baritone rumbled as he spoke. “You too, Leah,” he growled, sitting where she sat. He pulled Sophia in for a warm embrace, holding her firmly yet gently. Her sweet scent filled his nostrils, as her silky hair brushed against his chin. He closed his eyes shut, letting his mind drift away to a peaceful abode. It felt like her pain was hurting him more than it did to her. But he couldn't let his anger ruin his plans. Sophia gave in, holding him tighter, as she sobbed louder. The baby was all she had left in fighting for her marriage. And now she had lost it. She tightened her grip, trying to relish the comfort she felt. Everything felt right with him. From the scent of his cologne to the way he held her, down to how muscular yet cosy his build felt. After what felt like an eternity, the wailing came to an end. Her tears and liquids dried on his shirt but he couldn't care less. He tried to pull out from her grip but she held him tight, being intoxicated by him. At least, this was real to her, and she never wanted it to end. But then, she was still married to Henry, and she also wanted to save her marriage. If she had continued, it would prove Henry right, and she would be the slut and gold digger he called her. She finally pulled off, wiping her lashes which were clogged with tears dry. “I see you're much better now.” His eyes glistened with hope, “I have someone here that would cheer you up.” Her eyebrows furrowed. Who could he be talking about? She wondered. However, when she saw who came in, she felt a weight lift off her chest. “Maya!” She called out. “Sophie!!” “I'm so sorry, babe!” Maya rushed towards her, pressing their bodies hard against each other for a warm embrace. “I couldn't protect you, please forgive me.” Liam stood up, giving way for them, “I think it's my cue to leave,” he said, looking expressionless again. “I'd be at the lounge waiting.” They turned towards him, and Sophia nodded softly, “Okay, Mister.” her voice just above a whisper. Maya stared at her friend intently, as she wore a dreamy gaze towards him. “Eeeeee!” She squealed excitedly, “I guess I'm not the only one drooling over hot men.” “Stop it,” she beckoned, “so tell me babe, how did you find me?” She paused for a moment, “Well… to be honest with you, I didn't.” “He found me instead.” *** Jason sat in his living room, his eyes never settling on a spot, as he tried to visualise his next move. “This ceremony is very important to us, Jason.” His mother said, sitting right next to him, “And I won't let you and your slut ruin it for us.” “You know we have wasted so much time by thinking she was the one, and now, time is against us.” She continued, massaging her temple. It turned out that Jason was also a werewolf, and he had married Sophia, thinking she was the descendant of a powerful bloodline. But in the form of a half-human, half-wolf. He made love to her thinking she would be awakened like the prophecies said, but it was nothing but a waste of time. He took his time with her, wanting to build his powerful Luna and pack, making sure she wouldn't go against him. However, those years of pretence became futile when she wasn't awakened. “Just another f*****g human, trying to steal her way to riches.” He gritted his teeth, running his fingers through his hair. He turned towards his mother, his face resolute and words measured, “I know, mother. She tricked me… us. And she is never getting away with it.” “On the contrary, we still have Emily, and when our packs unite, we will soar above our competition and be recognised by the Lord Alpha.” He said, malevolently. “Well said, Jason.” She said, crossing one leg over the other. “Just strengthen your bond with Emily. You can kill the pretence when the marriage is sealed.” “That reminds me, where is she? I've been searching for her.” She added. “She went for Pack duties, Mother.” Jason responded, “She wanted to go alone, so I can handle some activities here.” “That's great! We have ourselves a Luna figure then.” She smirked. *** In a five-star hotel, an older man lay close to his mistress, the dim warm lights from the side lamps, cast on their skin, emanating their infidelity. The air was filled with tension, as their eyes locked onto each other, hidden with distinct truths, unknown to the other. “We can't keep doing this.” Her voice was low and filled with desperation. “My marriage is at stake.” He nodded gently, his eyes void of remorse, “I stand, but don't you want to be my Luna anymore, don't you want power and influence?” “I do, but–” She looked down, her voice laced with emotions. “But what?” He asked.
