Chapter 4: The Secret Revealed
Lyra’s curiosity was sparked as Asher hesitated. “What is it?” she asked gently.
Asher took a deep breath before responding. “There’s a reason you’re going through all of this, Lyra. It’s not just a coincidence. You are part of a prophecy that has been passed down for centuries among wolves.”
Lyra's eyes widened in astonishment. “A prophecy?” she repeated.
Asher nodded. “Yes. You’re destined for greatness, Lyra. You will become the pack’s leader and usher in a new era of peace and prosperity.”
Lyra was taken aback, struggling to grasp what she was hearing. “How do you know this?” she asked Asher.
When Asher said, "I've been studying the prophecy for years," "I've been trying to understand what it means and how it relates to you."
Eyes narrowed for Lyra. "And what exactly does the prophecy say?"
Asher hesitated before answering. A wolf with a distinctive mark will become powerful and guide the pack to greatness, according to the statement. And that mark is on you, Lyra.
Lyra's stunned eyes grew wide. "What mark?" she enquired. Asher got to his feet and approached her. "Let me show you," he murmured, pointing to her with his palm.
Lyra gasped when she saw the tiny mark on her palm. It was crescent-shaped, and it glimmered in the firelight.
"That's the mark of prophecy," Asher informed her, his eyes never wavering. "You're the one, Lyra. You're the chosen one."
Lyra's mind was reeling. She was unable to absorb what she was being told. She was the chosen one? What did that even mean?
Glancing at Asher, she saw the sincerity of his eyes. He was convinced of what he was saying, and Lyra couldn't help but be confused and enthralled.
And yet considering the prophecy and the mark, Lyra couldn't shake the feeling that there were things that she wasn't being told. There were things Asher was hiding from her, things that would turn everything around.
Lyra gazed at Asher, her eyes unspokenly requiring explanations while her mind raced with questions and worries. She drew a breath, "What does being the chosen one mean?" Asher had a serious face.
"It means you have a role to play," he said. "You're meant to be the pack leader and usher in a new time of peace and prosperity." A burst of fear and anticipation bounded Lyra's heart.
Though she had never considered herself a leader, the idea of taking up her destiny was thrilling and terrifying.
In a nervous tone, she asked, "But what about the threats?" "What if I fail?"
Asher turned to her and spoke reassuringly, "You won't fail," in a strong voice. "Lyra, you're strong. You have a leader's heart."
Determination washed over Lyra. She was willing to take the leap of faith and deal with whatever came next. As the conversation continued, Lyra was thinking that Asher understood her more than she could have ever imagined.
He observed her evolution and the work she did in keeping her wolf within. He was the only person who seemed to comprehend her true nature more than anyone else.
Intrigued, she questioned, "How do you know so much about me?" Asher responded with a gentle smile, "I've been watching you." "I've been waiting for you."
Lyra frowned slightly. "You were waiting for me?"
Asher nodded. "Yes. I was looking for the chosen one, and when I saw you, I recognised you."
Lyra felt a shudder run down her spine. She wasn't sure how to interpret Asher's remarks, but she knew she needed to believe him.
As the evening progressed, Lyra realised she needed to make a critical decision. She had two options: accept her destiny and become the pack leader, or try to live a normal life like everyone else.
But when she glanced at Asher, it was plain what she needed to do. She had to accept her fate, even if it involved hazards.
"I'll do it," she declared, her voice steady. "I'll lead the pack."
Asher's expression lit up with a smile. "I knew you would," he replied. "You're destined to be a leader, Lyra."
As Lyra stepped out of the cabin, she experienced a sense of purpose that had eluded her for quite some time.
She realized that her life was on the brink of transformatio
n in ways she couldn't yet envision, but she felt ready for it.
